+1

Bicylists downtown are more dangerous to pedestrains than cars.

Lived experience.

Drivers look for and try and avoid pedestrians in crosswalks. Bicyclists do not. They're as bad as joggers that refuse to stop at intersections.

So anecdotal and not based on anything.

Got it.

no, because without cyclists, streets would have been made out of dirt until the 1920's.

No, you're supposed to understand that "roads are for cars" is a foolish statement.

There is a subset of bicyclists that refuse to follow traffic rules and consider pedestrians beneath them. Sure a car will cause more damage but the odds of a pedestrian being injured downtown by a bicyclist are far greater than being injured by a car. Here's a fun fact for you. Pedestrians are way more carbon neutral than bicyclists.

Bicyclists have killed how many pedestrians in DC in the last 10 years?

Drivers have killed how many pedestrians in DC in the last 10 years?

For others: "distracted walking" doesn't kill people, but distracted driving does.

It's really something to carry on about bicyclists ON A THREAD ABOUT TWO PEDESTRIANS KILLED BY A HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER.

You should hear the old people on the Chevy Chase listserv complain about not being able to access Rock Creek Parkway so they can also enjoy nature. Mind you, there are portions of the parkway that are not currently closed that they can access by car and park. But noooooo, they want to be able to drive to all parts of the parkway and its not fair and discriminatory.

I don’t live there but yes it is unfair and discriminatory for rich people in that area to just close down a road to turn it into their own little park area.

If you lived there, you would know that people of all stripes have been using it.

NP and I don’t even own a bike. Wow, you are completely pathetic and your reasoning is laughable. Buddy, the statistics on injuries and deaths are RIGHT THERE on the google. I know the internet is hard for you boomers but you gotta get in the habit of googling before making a damn fool of yourself

You get dumber and more cringe with each post!

I am once again asking you to check the google for real numbers before making a damn fool of yourself

I hate to break the news to you but "Park" in the name "Rock Creek Park" should be a clue that it is already a park.

By that logic any and all national parks are discriminatory and unfair. Every single foot of nature needs to be accessible by car.

It’s really something else that a thread about pedestrians killed by cars in a park has turned into a bashing on bicyclists thread.

Anyway, has anyone heard whether the driver will be charged?

Please enlighten me. https://ggwash.org/view/79134/how-the-bike-crashes-shifted-out-of-downtown-dc-during-the-pandemic

Ward 2 has had an endemic of bike crashes while car crashes there are limited by the congestion.

Bike crashes does not mean they hit pedestrians. Most of those are one-bike accidents, like someone slipping on wet pavement or avoiding getting doored and wiping out.

Seriously? "Bike crashes" = drivers hit bicyclists.

But I agree that the streets are safer when driving speeds are slower.

If that was true then the numbers for bike and car crashes would be the same. They are not.
