My kids will be educated. Enjoy your “robust” virtual education. |
I seriously hope there is a recall - I'll sign |
Who actually believes the kids will be back 5 days, in-person, with a teacher, in the fall??
-NOT ME |
How do we “move more to the community centers” we get what the state gives us Fed gov needs to move the vax from Miss which doesn't want them, to where they are desired.-[b]Not in APS control How do we pay for and find more extended day staff? We are using them for everything we can to keep them employed. This is not a problem.-That's not true now that students are back in. They are handling drop off, monitoring lunch/recess/specials/bathrooms. Where do we open these extended day centers? In the schools.- If we want them to work extended day again we'll need to pay for more hours How do we FIX transportation if we have limited staff and busses. That's been an s-show and not covid-related. When attracting staff is hard, salary is not high enough. If finding trained people is hard, pay them to get trained.- There is a nationwide school bus driver shortage, more money would help but where do we get it? Not covid-related: get rid of option schools and make all schools as walkable as possible. That's a way to fix transportation generally and again, this was a huge prob before covid.- Not an option for this year but I agree in general |
FCPS is saying the same thing regarding 5 days in person in the fall. Yet the superintendent admitted in a work session last week that he has applied for a waiver of the minimum required hours next year. |
Why would the state grant the waiver? SB 1303 was pretty much written for NOVA. |
I don’t know that they will (I sure hope not). It does make me nervous though that he felt the need to put in the request .... |
I think they are planning on 5 days in person but want the waiver in case things surge and we need temporary shutdowns. |
As I read these posts, I get seriously depressed with how awful APS is for our kids. How are people so clearly unqualified in charge of our kids' education? How much longer are we going to put up with this? What else can we do? |
I think that’s really stupid of you. A lot of posters here are being ridiculous. It’s one of the top school districts in the state. We’re in the middle of a pandemic. Now we have a vaccine, they’ve opened for hybrid, and in the fall, everything will be back to normal. This whole thread is so stupid. |
Hire a governess already, then. |
Curious when we move out of the "middle of a pandemic" mentality. That is a key phrase that is routinely tossed out as though it justifies all things. But, we're not in the middle by my account anymore. We have vaccines. Variants are emerging, but, we're certainly light years from where we were last March. The problem is that we have barely moved the needle from last March, while a significant portion of the rest of America and the world have prioritized education and moved on from obsessing over the minutia like we are here. Other parts of the country are not hyperventilating over classroom capacity and 3 ft vs. 6 ft, indoor lunch, etc etc etc. I'm not saying that we should have a free for all, but, my gosh, it has been over a year now. Anyone who thinks our kids are not falling behind is kidding themselves and living in denial so that they don't have to face reality. |
"It's been a year now" is such bull. We were in a much different place - and with zero data or analysis - one year ago. We still are in the middle of the pandemic - it's hopefully the last bit but community transmission still "substantial". Like PP said, we will be back to normal by fall. These posts are ridiculous. |
If you seriously think APS is one of the "top school districts in the state" - you are pretty dumb yourself. Kids all around us are receiving a decent, actual education and our kids are not. What's been happening at APS for the past year is so far below what would be considered a top school district, it's insane. And this is not the middle of a pandemic anymore. Are you still wiping down groceries with clorox, lady?? |
Hmm. I guess all of these other people are dumb. We’re on the tail end of a pandemic- hybrid. When it’s over in the fall, we’ll be fully open. Time to get over that, and move on. https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-school-districts/s/virginia/ |
