I think that’s really stupid of you. A lot of posters here are being ridiculous. It’s one of the top school districts in the state. We’re in the middle of a pandemic. Now we have a vaccine, they’ve opened for hybrid, and in the fall, everything will be back to normal. This whole thread is so stupid.

Curious when we move out of the "middle of a pandemic" mentality. That is a key phrase that is routinely tossed out as though it justifies all things. But, we're not in the middle by my account anymore. We have vaccines. Variants are emerging, but, we're certainly light years from where we were last March. The problem is that we have barely moved the needle from last March, while a significant portion of the rest of America and the world have prioritized education and moved on from obsessing over the minutia like we are here.

Other parts of the country are not hyperventilating over classroom capacity and 3 ft vs. 6 ft, indoor lunch, etc etc etc. I'm not saying that we should have a free for all, but, my gosh, it has been over a year now. Anyone who thinks our kids are not falling behind is kidding themselves and living in denial so that they don't have to face reality.

"It's been a year now" is such bull. We were in a much different place - and with zero data or analysis - one year ago.

We still are in the middle of the pandemic - it's hopefully the last bit but community transmission still "substantial".

Like PP said, we will be back to normal by fall. These posts are ridiculous.

Cheers, friend! I am so sick of this stuff.

That's simply insane! Major urban school districts like Dallas have been back in person 5 days a week since October. No mass school closings or wave of sickness/death either. Is APS just waiting on Covid to disappear completely from the face of the earth?!

Fake news! They will open back up fully in the fall. Don’t get your panties in a bunch over absolutely nothing.

P.S. An urban district in redneck Texas ain’t my measuring stick.

Can someone please tell me what the actual policy is re ipads and k-2 next year? I pulled my kid from APS for private this year and will only go back to APS it is 5 FULL days a week and no more 1-1 devices for kids this young. APS kids deserve pencil and paper and a real live teacher in the classroom. I am not interested in school shifts or overreliance on technology for elementary kids.

All we know is that there is a budget request for 1:1 devices. It's possible that these wont be used and are just a backup plan and 1:1 devices would for little kids ould only be used if there is a covid outbreak and the class has to quarantine. It's also possible APS will ultimately do some version of hybrid. No one knows.

They did something we would never do because we aren’t redneck Texas, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t learn from their experience. They were open all winter and it was fine! Let’s use that info to open safely!

Redneck aye? Well I guess those Redneck kids will eventually be more educated than the ones here that are NOT getting the educational hrs like they did in prior years. Keep it up dumb dumb.

There it is. Thank you. These nut jobs are living in an alternate reality thinking that EVERYONE is equally behind. Nope, nope, nope. We are becoming more and more unique in how far behind our kids are.

Our inability to use new information to make different choices is really killing us here. The decision to stay virtual in October was understandable under the circumstances. The continued refusal to get more in person days now that we know more and have vaccines is inexcusable.

No one said "everyone", but we are hardly unique.

DP - I have a niece in a Dallas suburb and it's not "redneck Texas" - it has one of the top-rated school districts in the country. And as the PP stated, no mass closings or sickness/death. Instead, students are thriving and engaged in modified activities including band, dance team, etc.

Dallas is redneck? First I've heard it called that, but ok. And I see what you did there, not wanting your precious school compared to a (gasp!) "urban" district.

+100 The flyover country that this board talks down on so much has kids gaining an education while those of us on the coast have our kids stuck at home watching an iPad for 10 hrs a day. But they're learning right? Social interaction from carpooling, bus riding, playground playing, etc is such an important factor at these ages but this area is keeping all kids locked down from it whil 90% of the country has thrived for a year. I thought we were supposed to "trust science". Schools have been opened without issue.

Flyover schools have more space and less crowded schools. That’s all it is. They aren’t even taking that big a risk bc everything is bigger in Texas.

APS was a crowded snow show before pandemic, with old poorly ventilated schools.

Fake news.

Kids aren’t on iPads for 10 hours. Kids are riding buses and carpooling. Kids are playing at recess.

Go take your hysteria somewhere else.
