I wish I was smart enough to initiate that.. I'll certainly sign it though. Couldn't agree more he needs to be fired. It's unbelievable what that man is getting away with. In any other profession he would be fired by now.

Seriously? You are going to try to get a superintendent who hasn’t even been in the seat for 9 months fired? He was hired during a pandemic and has appeared level headed and calm this whole time. There are a lot of school systems that are operating on similar hybrid schedules still. It’s not like APS is this random outlier here. No one is ever going to be 100% loved by everyone- I hated Murphy and think he would have been awful during this time. At least Duran communicates and is transparent. I’d love to get kids back more days a week but at this point I will settle for what we have- which is switching kids from virtual to hybrid and get kids in 5 days a week in August.

He is a complete failure and should be fired. He has failed to provide any substantial plan and I have zero faith this will change for the fall. hybrid and concurrent is here to stay until covid disappears. anyone who doesn't see that either doesn't care or is paranoid.

He has a plan - you just don't like it. And, guess what, his plan includes opening 5 days in the fall.

Go get some exercise or find a healthier way to manage your anger issues.

Please tell me what will change between now and the fall? I could use some hope here

1) SB 1303 requires full time in person, regardless of CDC guidance
2) presumably transmission should be way down as all adults and quite possibly those 12+ will be vaccinated

SB1303 has a million loopholes..don't kid yourself.

Priddy was almost embarrassed when he said he would like to see kids in more days. PRIDDY HE WORKS FOR YOU--- YOU TOLD HIM TO BRING YOU A PLAN FOR MORE KIDS AND HE DIDN'T DO IT-- HOLD THE MAN ACCOUNTABLE.

Can we get someone, anyone on the SB with a backbone for crying out loud?!?!!? This is unacceptable. the man needs to be fired!!!!

No, he doesn't. He's actually trying to follow CDC guidelines.

UMM.. so APS is different than every other neighboring school district why/how??

Are we though? FCC is able to get their 4 whole schools back more days. Loudoun is getting just the littles in 4 days right now. Fairfax says they are going to send kids back more but have already rolled that back because it’s not realistic with the time left in the year. Let me know if I missed something...

Using “littles” to describe cohorts of students is a bit juvenile.

You're kidding, right? You sincerely think the SB demonstrated any stronger leadership under Murphy?!

Didn't FCC luck out and have a whole extra building they could use?

Trust me, APS could find more space if Duran and the SB opened their eyes and put some effort into being creative. The problem is they are lazy and not willing to try.

Where? The rec centers in the most crowded parts of Arlington are being used as vaccination sites

1000 times agree, especially the bolded part.

Sure, his plan includes opening 4 days in the fall. Where has he committed to 5 FULL days in the fall? He hasn't. Wishful thinking.

Report back in August when this magically changes to oops, we can't figure it out so we're doing hybrid again.

So irrational and out of touch with reality. Dude - get some help.

I feel exactly the same way. I want my kids in 4+ days and I’m disappointed but also appreciate his transparency and the impossible position he’s in with constraints related to APS.

Exactly. My kids are back in hybrid right now and really want to go back 4-5 days, BUT I acknowledge the reality of our tough situation and the very real constraints.

Yes, they took on more of the decision making process under Murphy.

I don’t get all hot and bothered over conversations like this, but here are some extra punctuation marks to make you feel at ease: ?!

He has said "5 days in the fall" multiple times. He has been very clear with his communication so that is on you if you can't keep up.

Go read the Tuesday 4/6 School Talk message for the latest if you want to see with your own eyes. I haven't watched the SB meeting but he may have discussed it last night as well.

STFU until you are better informed.

Oh look ventilation lady showed up.

CDC guidelines are 3 feet. But it's too challenging for the clowns to figure out. So no, he's not following CDC guidelines.

CDC guidelines are still 6 feet for lunch. Still 6 feet for MS and HS when rates are high (ours are) and if there isn't cohorting (we aren't). Everyone will be full time in the fall bc of SB 1303. Let's all take a breath.

Through a mask, please.

On in person days, my kid is still mostly being taught over the iPad. She gets 40 minutes of in person teaching as an elementary student, and that 40 minutes is concurrent with another in person class.

APS is allowing more than one elementary class to be taught by a single teacher, effectively doubling class sizes while the virtual class' teacher just "supervises" instead of teaching. This is happening.

Even when the teacher is present, they are often choosing to play pre recorded videos instead of offering live teaching. Yesterday was a gloriously beautiful day. For PE, the kids watched a video in the gym of the PE teacher giving a lesson, who was present and not doing anything.

APS needs to up its game and stop relying on screens. It's so so lazy and there is zero reason to believe that this is going to change in the fall.

I agree that sounds awful and I’m not being contrary, but my fourth graders experience is nothing like that! Coming home with work done on paper, drawings, poems, study guides. They even did art outside one day.

Given that the CDC change makes busing simpler, why can't we extend in person days to the normal length? Has Duran answered this question?
