Why won't people address the massage shootings as the mental health issue rather than racism?

How are we going to resolve this if we ignore reality.

So you are okay with the division as long as the division involves both black and white people united against Asians? Just want to be clear.

I think you got it wrong.

PP would like the division to be Asian/white against black. He/she is afraid that this recent situation might break that beautiful bond that PP has built in their head. How else would "blacks also commit crimes against Asian people" fit in their comment even when PP admits that this particular shooter was likely racist?

6 out 8 victims were asian = racism

But when an Asian VA tech shooter kills 24-25 white people out of a total of 32 victims it isn't racism?

Can't have it both ways..

Stop being stupid. You have to work hard to target a specific MINORTIY group. It speaks to intention.

Are you stupid? Are you trying to compare the shooters and not the victims of the massacres? The VT shooter shot students and faculty in whatever classrooms he went into. Look at the profiles of the victims. Men and women. Victims of all skin colors, including Asians.

You sound dim + backwoods O.P. people always blame mental health so as to avoid having to deal with racism + gun control.

When EVERYTHING is racism, nothing is racism.

Even law enforcement have said there is not indication that this was race-motivated. The shooter had frequented these places in the past.

Because law enforcement is repeating WHAT THE SHOOTER TOLD THEM. That's literally where they are getting this from. Not from interviewing witnesses, not from interviewing people that knew the guy, not from scrubbing his social media (including possible anon accounts), not from gathering and examining physical evidence from the shooter's home. It's just because he said so.

I'm not saying they are going to find evidence this was racially based, but there's no way they can say "it doesn't appear to be" right now.

People with serious mental health issues have not been able to get services and have been festering. Why must everything be about racism. We should be talking about what to do with seriously mentally ill people who refuse to get help or take medications.

The massage shooting may or may not be racially motivated. There is local Korea media report that the killer shouted "I wanted to kill all Asians" but it has not been confirmed. FBI should investigate it to find out whether this is a hate crime.

But one cannot deny the fact there is a recent wave of attacks on Asians.

The responsible thing for the police and the FBI to say is that we are investigating the possibility of a racially motivated crime. Full stop. Instead, these white men publicly announce that "it doesn't appear" to be racially motivated simply because the dude who looks like them said so and they will take him at his word. Despite his having murdered eight people. Because his word is so reliable and trustworthy and he has nothing to hide.

It’s as if you don’t think racism is a real thing. Weirdo.

It can be both.

Racists typically spew hate with words.

Mentally ill racists use a gun.

We should fix all three deadly issues:
Racism
Mental health
Guns

I wonder if racism is tied somewhat to mental health. People have deep insecurities and feel the need to make other people “lesser” to inflate their own self worth.

Let’s pump Prozac into the water supply of red states and see if racism drops.

The recent wave of crimes against Asians is the worst in the last thirty years as far as I remembered. Yet very few of these crimes are classified as hate crimes. I have yet to see an announcement from FBI that they are investing the massage shooting to find out if this is a hate crime.

No I thought I made this clear enough. Both blacks and whites are committing asian hate crimes so to spin this up as solely a white supremacist issue is not going to resolve the problem. Let's make sure we address reality please. It shouldn't be about pitting groups against each other and pretending like it's just one group doing these heinous crimes. How about we all just agree as humans to stop being racist because the reality is all people regardless of skin color can be racist a-holes.

Because the increased violence against Asian people was birthed by the last guy, a White guy and a white supremacist. Yes, Black people are committing some of the violence too, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come from a person steeped in white supremacist culture.

Mmhmm. it’s true they were calling recent Black on Asian crimes white supremacy in the media and SJW rallies. When all those Asian-owned businesses were destroyed in the Rodney King riots the vandals were steeped in white supremacy?

Aren’t there certain markers of hate crimes that need to be in evidence to classify? Are all crimes hate crimes?

In order to control public outrage, isn’t it better to say there is no evidence of a hate crime if it’s the truth? It doesn’t mean they won’t bring evidence to light if it’s found.

Sigh.
“And while the motive remains still under investigation at the moment, it does not appear that the motive was racially motivated. But I really would defer to the state and local investigation on that for now.”
