Maybe it was pertinent to their tribute in ways that are not fully evident to everyone. |
Yes, it was political but so evidently was Tommy. Veganism, libertarianism, internships at think tanks and with elected officials. In celebrating their son, they also celebrated the parts of him that cared deeply about the political sphere. |
Nope. Sorry you can't understand what it is to have such strong political feelings, like the Raskins and their son. He would have wanted it there and they were right to add it. Just because you don't think politics belong in an obituary doesn't mean everyone agrees with you. |
OMGoodness, he was not a libertarian. |
A civil libertarian isn’t necessarily a Libertarian. |
| Was Jamie Raskin at the Capitol yesterday? |
I mean, he interned at CATO. His parents also described him thusly, ".....but his irrepressible love of freedom and strong libertarian impulses made him a skeptic of all institutional bureaucracy and a daring outspoken defender of all outcasts and kids in trouble." This isn't a slur. It's a description his parents use three times in their beautiful statement of his values and complex belief system. |
Yes. He got a bipartisan standing ovation before everything started. |
Yes, he tweeted that he was safe and sheltering in place. |
Not only was he there, but he also had family with him in the chamber. Seriously, how much more can one family take? https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/news/montgomery-county-police-called-to-d-c-after-protest-mob-invades-capitol/ |
Jamie Raskin Lost His Son. Then He Fled a Mob. The day before the Capitol riot, a congressman buried his 25-year-old son, who had left a note for his family on New Year’s Eve. https://amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/617609/ |
Who are you to say what’s appropriate or not for their son’s obituary?? They were a political family. If you’re offended then you’re probably not the intended audience. |

I am an Indian-American who is liberal. I have never disliked and been more ashamed of another Indian-American more than Dinesh D'Souza. He is such a sewer rat.
Seema Verma and Ajith Pai are also the same kind of unctuous rodents. Shameful and corrupt. The worst of every corner of the world is attracted to the GOP and Trump. What does that tell you about the moral decay of this party. |
|
I'm very sorry this bright and thoughtful young man faced such unhappiness and took his own life. I'm also sorry for the family and friends grieving him. Since the family chose to reference his conversation with D'Souza: Raskin's understanding of "illicit" was fine, but other than that, I don't see how he "destroyed" anything D'Souza said. Decide for yourself: |
Why would you have your family there when everyone knew that Trump was planning protests? |
