Yes, it was political but so evidently was Tommy. Veganism, libertarianism, internships at think tanks and with elected officials. In celebrating their son, they also celebrated the parts of him that cared deeply about the political sphere.

Sorry you can't understand what it is to have such strong political feelings, like the Raskins and their son. He would have wanted it there and they were right to add it. Just because you don't think politics belong in an obituary doesn't mean everyone agrees with you.

I'm very sorry this bright and thoughtful young man faced such unhappiness and took his own life. I'm also sorry for the family and friends grieving him. Since the family chose to reference his conversation with D'Souza: Raskin's understanding of "illicit" was fine, but other than that, I don't see how he "destroyed" anything D'Souza said.
