Congressman Raskin

Nothing worse than losing a child. I pray that the sadness I feel for the family relives some of theirs.

The cause of death is under investigation per an ABC news tweet.

Terrifically smart and accomplished, too. A golden boy with such a bright future, just heartbreaking.

My grandmom's cousin died in WW2 at around age 25.... but not in battle. He had a massive heart attack aboard a transport ship. He always had exertion issues and I'm kind of shocked the USCG took him, maybe the other services would not. Anyway, while its not super common for 25 year olds to die suddenly of natural causes, it happens. Very sad for the family.

I'm sure once a cause of death is determined there would be more information. When a young person dies suddenly it usually requires an autopsy, which sadly is something not done enough anymore. Of course nobody is really entitled to know a COD, and yet we all wonder about these things, morbidly.

I told my family....in my obituary one day, dont ever write that I "passed away suddenly" or "passed away suddenly at home". That seems to be code used to cover up a self-inflicted death.

I hear you. My 53-year-old sister died completely unexpectedly last year...mid-sentence in a conversation with my mother...and we don't know the cause. It was written as either "unexpectedly" or "suddenly" and at her memorial service, it became aware to me that people were speculating she had taken her own life--which was shocking. Sometimes, we just won't know the answer. Just mourn them in peace.

It is funny how things are "code" in obituaries. For a while, pneumonia was code for AIDS.

I’m very sorry for the loss of your sister. I feel really bad for your mom, too. I’m sure that was traumatic for her. I’m sorry your grief was compounded by others’ speculation.

I’m surprised by how sad I am for the Raskin family, given that I don’t actually know them. Maybe it’s because I’ve seen Congressman Raskin on tv so many times, but I’m very saddened by this terrible loss. May Tommy’s memory be a blessing.

+1. I feel strongly that, if known, my COD be clearly stated. Even if it were to be self-inflicted. No sense promoting shame over mental health struggles.
