Good grief... we know the Raskins and they are very nice people, but the political indoctrination was strong in that piece. Leave Dinesh alone. |
Hugs pp to you and your family. Awful on top of an awful year. |
|
My heart breaks for them.

This was the most beautiful tribute I've ever read. It clearly shows not only his potential but how well his parents knew him and how much he was loved by family and the wider community. I understand that there are genetic and biological components to depression and that it is a disease. It also seems that this young man felt the pain and injustices of the world too deeply. Some people are wired like that and while it makes them more empathetic and compassionate, it also makes going through life painful at times, especially if you tend to internalize the pain of other beings. A warm hug to anyone who feels this way and also struggles with depression. |
I have a brother with treatment resistant chronic depression. Now that my parents are gone, he is my responsibility. Both of your words hit my heart, it's such a terrible, awful, lonely struggle. Peace to all. |
That was my gut reaction too - unnecessary and made the thoughtful piece political. |
+1. It made a beautiful tribute political. They should remove it. |
This is exactly what I was thinking, as so eloquently put by the PP here. |
| I know Jamie and the passionate love expressed for his delightful precious boy in that piece just is devastating to read. That they encourage students at all of his son's schools to send notes about their time with Tommy broke my heart. I would want that too as a mother - I would be desperately hungry for any little detail of my precious child's life that I might have missed, just as a way to "have another minute" with him. Heartbreaking. I will be praying for his family's strength -- not just this week, but long after everyone else has moved on. |
Politics clearly plays a key role in this family's life. Your discomfort with it matters little. |
|
The Raskins are some of the most decent people I've ever known - kind, compassionate, brilliant, committed to public service. It breaks my heart that this amazing family is experiencing such a profound tragedy.

It was probably one of the things Tommy was most proud of - he had so much of his life in front of him. He was a deeply idealist and politics-orientated kid. And it's not an obituary - it's a personal essay in an online forum. If it bothers you, mime turning the channel...and stop reading. |
He is a federal felon and conspiracy theorist so no don’t leave him alone and it’s a proud moment when a child stands up to evil. |
It was part of his sons life and a proud moment. Sometime just bring good is political. |
I am so sorry for your loss. |
