| I would 100% move to McLean if this happened. Screw “equity.” |
| Irony is McLean voted in the same people who have been screwing them over for years. When they found out “equity” in FC/FCPS means sit down, shut up, and keep writing those checks, they decided it wasn’t so great. |
I know, right? Arlington is so much better!!! Well managed county, excellent school district with no major impending disaster... |
What does the comment have to do with the previous one? |
If size is the problem, if Fairfax is too big, then smaller counties must be great. Right? |
Arlington County has nothing to do with this. This would be more like Falls Church City. |
| It they do this, they need to do whatever it takes to keep the "affordable housing" lobbyists and nonprofit groups out. |
McLean has a population of 47,000. Arlington has a population of 240,000. Comparing a potential City of McLean to Arlington County doesn't make sense. Falls Church has a population of 14,000. I would argue that McLean is a perfect size to be its own city. 47,000 is plenty big to have economies of scale, without becoming too larger. |
size isn't the problem, the poors are. McClean city would have a much better rich to poor ratio (maybe they could find a way to draw lines to have no poors). |
the whole reason to do this is to avoid subsidizing affordable areas. There is no chance they would welcome affordable housing |
Troll fail. |
Because right now my commute is perfect but if telework becomes the norm, McLean wont be a big deal, would be closer commute for spouse and a concentrated resources in the schools would be worth it. Cost isn't an issue |
if you don't think the real reason for separation is to stop subsidizing the poorer parts of the county you're delusional. What do you think keeping tax dollars local means? |
Not so. You can still subsidize affordable areas if you still get reasonable services yourself. McLean doesn’t - just look at recent FCPS priorities: * keeping Cooper/Longfellow kids out of TJ with no acknowledgement of enrollment impacts on Langley and McLean * building new additions at less overcrowded schools like Justice and Madison while sticking McLean kids in trailers and a second-hand modular * developing a new Academy program at Lewis HS next summer on top of AP/IB while Langley and McLean have no special programs and some of the largest class sizes in the county It’s time to set up a new jurisdiction that has more control over its resources. |
| moving forward with this would create a school that could rival TJ. Given the changes going on there, this would be welcomed |
