Do many students attend Baltimore or DC privates? I imagine the commute is rough.

No. Definitely not. I know kids at all the schools that have been mentioned, and only know one kid who commutes to DC, and that kid is like 4th generation or something at Gonzaga.
That poster is just proving that you should never listen to DCUM on anything related to Annapolis or Anne Arundel County

Funny we live in Annapolis and know plenty of kids at DC privates and the northern Baltimore privates.

Over the years I have met / known people who lived in the northern park of AA and commuted to the Baltimore privates, including from Pasadena waterfront to St. Pauls. But it is a long and tiring commute. I don't doubt people do it but it's draining after a while and I can't imagine that many people do it. A few, sure, but come on, commuting from Annapolis to the DC privates like St. Albans or Sidwell is even worse. Might as well just go to boarding school.

Think what you want. Baltimore schools run buses to Annapolis and Plenty of kids go to both Baltimore and DC privates.

Principle just quit. New president should be the one leaving.

New president has been a total disaster for the school. First time as being head of school and it shows. He is more like a puppet for his secretary who really runs the school.

President out and his secretary out good move by the school. Feel sorry for his wife and her husband

Sure, but how many are actually doing it. Take Gilman. 1000 boys. How many live in Annapolis/AA county? 20? 30?

I wouldn't consider any other schools in Annapolis besides Indian Creek, Severn, and Key. We moved from NYC and have strong ties to some of the best private schools there and here is the general opinion:

Indian Creek: good school but not necessarily worth the money. Look at the college acceptances.

Severn: great academics and sports, nice campus. but outside of the local area its sort of seen as a small town wanna be serious prep school. If you are from Severna Park and want your kids to live there as well, it makes sense.

Key: the only school that could actually pull its weight outside of Annapolis. Its very similar in style to the best progressive private schools in the country. Most people in Annapolis don't get it and aren't cultured enough to get it. By far the superior education if you want your child to do well in life.

I would never send a child to Indian Creek.

I second this. So many kids do this commute and are thrilled about their experience.

Look beyond Key School regardless of your politics or orientation.

Severn, St. Mary's, Archbishop Spalding or the Baltimore privates - assuming you want something besides a "progressive", woke agenda like at Key. I'd place my child in one of the Annap. HS magnet programs (IB, Art, STEM) before Key School and for many the public magnet programs may be better than any of the local privates.

I went to Severn back in the 90s and started in 6th grade (at the time it started in 6th). We moved from out of state and toured Severn in the morning and Key in the afternoon and my mom told me to pick one. I immediately picked Severn and was like, don't ever make me go to Key again! I've done quite well with my (now old timey) Severn education.

Indian Creek is very small and not very welcoming.

I would never send my child to key, but it is a nice fit for a wealthy progressive elite.

I think this is exactly the right perspective. The people who would be happy at Severn would be miserable at Key and vice versa. Neither is really better than the other, it just depends on what type of education and community you want.

As for Indian Creek, I'm not sure why it gets so much hatred here. DS has several friends there and they all seem absolutely thrilled with it. It's definitely the most diverse of the "big 3" Annapolis secular schools, and when we toured they had some really interesting programs. My son ended up at one of the religious private schools, but ICS was a close second and we're still considering it for my daughter.

.

NOT Archbishop Spaulding. Problems with bullying and no admin support.

The idea of having a big 3 in Annapolis is silly.
