I think Key is now regarded as better.

I disagree and what does "better" mean?

Catholic - St. Mary’s - downtown

Key has issues do a google search.
Indian creek poor leadership it’s all about nepotism there with teachers and administrators.
St. Anne’s lots of turn over with teachers. Poor leadership.

Best bet is Severn or St Mary’s.

If you're checking out schools in the preK-8 range, also check out St. Andrews.

Archbishop Spalding - not in Annapolis but many kids in Annapolis go there who may have considered St. Mary's. More of a big school feel than St. Mary's - more academic opportunities in STEM, athletic power house and kids seem nicer.

Severn - most rigorous of all the schools; athletic but particularly great for elite sports (sailing, rowing etc)

Indian Creek - better for kids with different learning styles or needing a bit more attention; a very kind school.

Key - one of the top schools, not sure as rigorous as Severn - could be. Extremely liberal which can be a positive or negative.

I think this is really accurate.

For the person considering St Marys vs Spalding, I think you probably know in your guy which one is right for your family. If you know lots of people at St Marys and are already part of that community/culture, you'll probably love it. If not (and especially if you aren't conservative Catholic) Spalding will probably be a better fit.

Key is in great shape. What are you talking about, the 1970s sex scanda that they have done a ton to address openly and fairly?

I was thinking the same thing. What recent issues has the Key School had? When I think of Annapolis private schools, I think of Key.

One recent example thing was a teacher that lived down the street selling info to Russia.

Honestly for what you pay there facilities are awful.

Come on - how is the idiotic teacher and her husband selling sub secrets anything that Key can control?? (not Russia, some S American country)

I still laugh thinking about the poor key school head of school trying to draft a statement for the press when that story broke. I feel like "we don't support selling nuclear secrets" was never included in teacher training programs.

There are other issues that get negotiated away.

As a Key parent it was a salacious story but it really had nothing to do with our kids’ education. Pretty much exactly like when the school sued Hunter Biden.

I agree regarding their facilities. Extremely outdated in many parts of the campus. I cant figure that one out... but I've heard they are generous with aid so perhaps they prioritize core operational costs over esthetics...

This is so not true. Severn School isn't a good fit for everyone and it barely has a brown face in the school. That tells me all I need to know about Severn.

I'm not sure what Indian Creek School USED to be. But from what I've seen and experienced in 2023, it's excellent.

It’s a diocese school. If you are ok with that, go there. It is ok not a great school.
In my opinion Key’s campus is just depressing. People like Indian Creek. I found there admissions staff painful to deal with and just gave up.

Really? How so? I'm going through the process now and the staff has been one of the highlights for me. Very kind, extremely responsive, they've provided us with a lot of FaceTime to get to know the school, and well organized.

I agree with you 100%. The admissions staff has been amazing to our family. Very kind, quick to respond, and great follow-through. I'm thrilled with the school. This is 2023. ICS has become very tough to get into and several families that I personally know (at various grade levels including high school), who applied for the current school year, weren't granted admission. So if you're considering ICS as a back up plan or safety net, think again.

St. Mary's - ULTRA WHITE, Trumpish, and a tone deaf culture.

Spaulding - BARELY A BROWN FACE IN THE CROWD. But...it works for various people for a myriad of reasons.

Severn - NOT DIVERSE, you may see A FEW, and definitely carried an unearned tone of being "elite"...based on what? I couldn't find it. I've heard

Indian Creek - SOMEWHAT DIVERSE, FAR MORE DIVERSE THAN THE AFOREMENTIONED. The piece about the different learning styles and attention is completely false. Has some brilliant to very normal kids there, just like every other school. Very welcoming. But, if they know and love your family, it'll be an even better experience for you. So, I can see why some might claim nepotism. Nonetheless, I haven't met a family yet who actually attends the school with any complaints. They all say they love it! Liberal environment.

KEY - SOMEWHAT DIVERSE, DOES HAVE VARIOUS STUDENTS OF COLOR REPRESENTED, amazing students and teachers, great curriculum. The parent community seems split - either extremely happy or unhappy with the school. The admissions team leaves a lot to be desired; some aloof personalities. My child attended summer camp there and had a wonderful time. I on the other hand, experienced issues with admissions when they misled us with the title of a program. It was the total opposite of what was advertised. When I sought to get my money back, they went unresponsive. I kept quiet for the sake of my child. Very Liberal environment.

Yeah, the type of family who would be happy at Severn wouldn't be happy at ICS, and vice versa. This is a very clear situation of finding the right FIT for your kid. Both will provide your kid with a good education. One will be much more comfortable for your family. (We ended up at neither of those, but were **very** impressed with ICS and it was a really strong second choice. Severn wouldn't have worked for our family at all.)

I am curious how you have such in-depth knowledge of all of these schools.

Their admission team is nothing short of awful. We were so frustrated with the process we gave up before applying, know two families who pulled their applications because they couldn’t take the complete incompetence anymore.
