I wouldn't consider any other schools in Annapolis besides Indian Creek, Severn, and Key. We moved from NYC and have strong ties to some of the best private schools there and here is the general opinion: Indian Creek: good school but not necessarily worth the money. Look at the college acceptances. Severn: great academics and sports, nice campus. but outside of the local area its sort of seen as a small town wanna be serious prep school. If you are from Severna Park and want your kids to live there as well, it makes sense. Key: the only school that could actually pull its weight outside of Annapolis. Its very similar in style to the best progressive private schools in the country. Most people in Annapolis don't get it and aren't cultured enough to get it. By far the superior education if you want your child to do well in life.
I went to Severn back in the 90s and started in 6th grade (at the time it started in 6th). We moved from out of state and toured Severn in the morning and Key in the afternoon and my mom told me to pick one. I immediately picked Severn and was like, don't ever make me go to Key again! I've done quite well with my (now old timey) Severn education.
I think this is exactly the right perspective. The people who would be happy at Severn would be miserable at Key and vice versa. Neither is really better than the other, it just depends on what type of education and community you want. As for Indian Creek, I'm not sure why it gets so much hatred here. DS has several friends there and they all seem absolutely thrilled with it. It's definitely the most diverse of the "big 3" Annapolis secular schools, and when we toured they had some really interesting programs. My son ended up at one of the religious private schools, but ICS was a close second and we're still considering it for my daughter.
The idea of having a big 3 in Annapolis is silly.
