It’s a diocese school. If you are ok with that, go there. It is ok not a great school.
In my opinion Key’s campus is just depressing. People like Indian Creek. I found there admissions staff painful to deal with and just gave up.

Really? How so? I'm going through the process now and the staff has been one of the highlights for me. Very kind, extremely responsive, they've provided us with a lot of FaceTime to get to know the school, and well organized.

I grew up in the area and Severn was regarded as the best. My general impression was that Indian Creek was the kids that couldn’t get into Severn.

I am glad you had a great experience we had the opposite. Just unresponsive or saying that they would get us information then never getting it to us as promised, us following up, rinse and repeat. I know other people thar had similar experience to us the and I know other people that have the same experience as you. Apparently it’s really good or really bad nothing in between

Severn has a more competitive vibe in all aspects - academic, social, sports, and activities, which is good and bad. Indian Creek is smaller and more welcoming, if not as competitive as Severn.

I think Key is now regarded as better.

I am not a fan of Key or Spaulding but they both send kids to great schools as well.

Catholic - St. Mary’s - downtown

Key has issues do a google search.
Indian creek poor leadership it’s all about nepotism there with teachers and administrators.
St. Anne’s lots of turn over with teachers. Poor leadership.

Best bet is Severn or St Mary’s.

Severn and Indian Creek get a D- for diversity. Probably only 20% students of color. That’s why we declined both spots.

20% is significantly higher than representative population percentage.

DP. Be that as it may, it’s much higher at Key (62% white).

ICS and Severn are very different schools.
I've also noticed that families deciding between ICS and Severn are white with a more mixed bag, but mostly non-white families choosing between ICS and Key.

ICS parent here, and I agree with that assessment (although probably excluding athletes).

Quoting to add that I agree with you and not PP who said ICS was for kids that couldn't get into Severn. Maybe back in the day, but I dont believe that they are attracting overlapping pools as much these days.

PP that said ICS is for kids who couldn’t get in Severn, I believe you and nice to hear the school pools have evened out. My experience is well over 15 years ago at this point for clarity. I also know people that went to St. Mary’s too which I haven’t seen mentioned much yet.

“Best” is subjective. Even the list of “Top 3” schools in metro DC is frequently contested here at DCUM. So I can’t speak to “best”.

A colleague has DC at St Martin’s school in Annapolis and is happy with both the academics and social environment. Their web site suggests their curriculum is reasonable - no hint of the widely discredited Lucy Calkins’ Readers Workshop/Writers Workshop for example. Their reading program reportedly is Phonics-centered with explicit study of roots, suffixes, and such, so that part looks very good. They appear to explicitly teach spelling and grammar, which also is good. It is a K-8 school, not K-12, so one would need to go through outplacement at some point.

It probably would be worth at least a look-see for someone exploring school options near Annapolis.

Take a trip over the bridge to Gunston. A lot of Annapolis families apply there. They have a bus to Annapolis. 9-12.
