That would mean the county and team would have to use some of the money to retrofit the pools which they aren't willing to do. They cannot even keep even temperatures with the heat in the winter.

It isn't much of a retrofit for touch pads, there are pools in the area that have them. They are put on for meets and then removed. They are expensive though. And I don't think that there is a lot of extra money floating around to make it happen. The clubs should be able to do it - particularly Machine, NCAP, etc that are more expensive. I do not see summer community pools pulling it off because so many of them are working at the margin.

The county/RMSC isn't going to spend that kind of money on meets. They don't even give out the t-shirts anymore. And, at best we have 2-3 coaches for 70 kids. Ideally they should do it as its more accurate but its not going to happen as they only do the minimum. They cannot even give us our deposits back or credit them like they said they would to this years swim. (if we want them back, we can do a request through the county but we haven't even gotten credited the money yet). County summer pool swim teams should be given them from the county but they aren't really given much of anything and some teams have a good parent rep who puts money/time into it and others don't.

Make your way back to the RMSC thread please. Or better yet, find a different club. You are really bitter about the t-shirt thing. It is weird.

The point is they aren't going to spend the money to make it safe. They cannot even give us a schedule or start date.

There is no social distancing in a soccer game. I’d feel much safer having my kid swim in a meet. Clearly the soccer community is willing to take a lot more risk than the swimming.

Absolutely; swim meets are much much safer than soccer or even baseball, because no one ever touches anyone else, and everyone is in their own lane (and under water). The problem is lining up at the blocks. The solution will be that meets take longer because kids will not be allowed to crowd behind the blocks by heats. This probably means there will be more meets with cut times.

Totally agree - my kids just played in three soccer games this weekend and in each game, the kids were all over each other and had super close contact for over an hour. And only one kid wore a mask (our county in MD does not require them). The only kid who was "socially distanced" was the keeper. Swim meets with social distancing in place for line up in the clerk of course would feel much safer.

Back to the original topic of this thread, for anyone part of MD Swimming, they are starting to sanction virtual meets as of next week! So I anticipate our club will be back to competition in the next few months: https://www.teamunify.com/team/md/page/news/250847/announcing-the-mdsi-virtual-meet-series

Kids need to be 6-10 feet away to be "safe" so that would be impossible in most pools. Soccer sounds completely unsafe.

Yes, so nice of them to give it to us the day before and tell us this is the times, too bad if they don't work for you. Hey, we have your money and that's all that is important.

We had the schedule for over a week. Does your child swim for RMSC?

My senior has many senior friends who have stopped swimming because they don't plan to swim in college so "what's the point of swimming this year with no real chance of a final HS season." The senior who already know they are swimming in college will continue for conditioning but it is difficult to do the grind of 20 plus hours/week with no actual goal to be working toward in the next 6 months. My HS freshman, would have been working toward JO cuts, sectional cuts, metro cuts etc. Those things do keep you motivated. I hope he will continue . . . but we shall see.

Tough situation. My heart breaks for these kids -- especially the seniors. Maybe this country will take public health more seriously in the future.

Yes, we got the schedule today. Glad your program/coaches are more organized.

They are not staying 6-10 feet away in practice. Just saying....

I talked to a swim coach who said they are working on figuring out a way to have some meets. Most likely in the October time frame when they can have kids hanging out outside.

They would also reduce the number of kids in each session by breaking down age groups. So only 2 ages at a time.

The big issue is figuring out which rec centers/pools will allow meets. Some have said no to all meets.

NY is having swim meets. We can’t even have virtual meets?

Maryland Swimming will start sanctioning virtual meets as of 9/18. Some of the facilities can’t accommodate meets, but many can and I anticipate our club will start meets in Oct. What has PVS communicated?

Not sure what meets you go to but they have the kids sitting closely in groups waiting to swim for hours. There is not space to space them 6-10 feet apart and it will all be indoors.
