Finally someone said it.

Exactly. Thank you!

The MCPS and FCPS parents invading our private school board are just sour grapes. School will be in person for many of us as much as it pains you. It won't likely last the entire semester, but these kids will get much needed in person learning. Grateful.

OH NOES! The help is getting uppity so we gotta put them in their place!

There’s nothing more amusing than rich people getting upset when labor pushes back in even the smallest amount.

But private schools don’t have unions so why do people care?

Because the people who send their kids to privates are the same people who prosper on the backs of labor that actually does the work. Gotta keep those peons in check!

I do? Which other posts did I write?

Also, I’m just a staff member at a private school, so clearly I didn’t get the fancy book-learnin’ you did. I’ll try to write better next time, Massa.

Different poster here, but I just wanted to say that I am sorry for the disrespect that you and other teachers are hearing on this board. I guess the last couple years have taught me that people are a lot more disappointing than I thought, but I hope that what you're seeing doesn't reflect most parents. I don't think teachers should have to accept threats to their health to work, and this situation can be blamed on a lot of people, but none of them are teachers.

Think that if you must.

LOL, no darling, my kids are already grown. I’m just a DC resident and Bowser supporter watching all of this with interest, and find it amusing you thought you could buy your way back into the classroom. Not gonna happen!

What a shocking degree of pettiness and small-mindedness. Karma's going to be a bitch for you.

What a ridiculous and ignorant stereotype. I have three kids at two private schools. Yes, some of the parents are extremely wealthy. The majority of families are two, successful working parents. We're doing the labor, honey.

I work in an independent school and my child attends my school so...nope. You are just a gross representation of private schools. Be ashamed.

Couldn’t agree more. The ps parents are foaming at the mouth hoping private schools are DL too. That’s the gross behavior here.

The directive is no school - but bars and gyms and protestors - please continue to go about your activities.

Yes, having in person school for only the rich people who can afford to be involved in and supplement their kids' learning regardless is such an equalizer.

You really need to direct your anger to the federal level. The lack of readily available rapid testing and PPE is a huge, huge barrier to opening schools. And we have leaders who have purposely tried to prevent access to tests and PPE. Local governments cannot do this by themselves. Our country is being destroyed from the top.

Yep, exactly. Either ALL kids go back to school, or NO kids go back to school. This is a public health issue, not a public/private school issue. It’s either safe for all, or unsafe for all, just like restaurants/bars/stores/etc.

+1 If AU, and Georgetown, and GWU can do it, so can the K-12 private schools.

Yes, Bowser said she hoped privates would follow her decision. If you listened to her, mich of the decision was based on the teachers union not wanting to go back and she blamed it mostly on “staffing”. So basically she could not convince the teachers to go in.

Why she mentioned the privates? Simple. It makes her and the DCPS look bad if they can’t get their kids and especially their teachers don’t want to go in, but DC privates can. Makes DCPS look stupid. If privates close, DC parents can’t complain.

Yup. This is not the moment for “elitist” schools to open when publics do not and Mayor says not to either.

Nah, you miss the point. I want the private schools to be open and the public schools should have found a way to be open at least 2 days a week... Shame on them for not finding a way to offer it..

I agree with you. But this moment in time for privates is not helped by the current feelings about elite anything.

The point is not others feelings but my child’s education. That’s why I sacrifice to pay 80k a year. We are in it for the long haul and the DL was well done in our case so I’m disappointed but not dissatisfied with DL in the Fall, however some private schools have far more space, faculty and much smaller student bodies than any public in the area. They should not all be clumped together. Not because of being elite institutions, whatever that means, but because of factual info of how this virus can avoid being spread. If our smaller k-8 has hybrid my kids will be there. And if someone feels bad about that then they should stop socializing and do everything in their power to stop the spread. I have stayed home for months, ordered groceries, no friends in person, etc. the resources of the world are not spread equally. We are not a communist country. I think the public schools should figure out a way for kids to be campus at least once a week, but that isn’t the fault of private schools who have the sos d and small numbers to do so.

Space to do so.

We are a financial aid family at a private school. I echo the disgrace at the gyms and restaurants open. From folks (maybe you?) eating under the covered porches at Surfside to those of you sweating it out at Vida Fitness and Solidcore posting selfies with your fitness class group standing close to each other - look at their Instagram. And your beach vacations in packed beaches. The list goes on and on - Bowser has really done a job on this city. Bars Closed. Schools Open. My kid is DEPRESSED. He is not himself anymore. We have no outside help and work fulltime jobs. Bars Closed. Schools Open.
