@MayorBowser : Save DC Lives: Ban Indoor Dining ( After all, its a room packed with NO ONE IN A MASK ) Instead, she closes school ..... the schools are NOT the cause of the Covid spike, its the MD beach Bars and the Indoor Dining in DC and VA |
You know, I totally agree. It’s funny that she has called out 37 states who have to quarantine if their citizens visit DC and has gyms open and likely more of these “house party/concerts” are happening. Who the heck wants to vacation in DC anyway? Nothing is open and at any time a protest may pop up. The news just showed footage of another party in PG county. WTF, it’s not like the message hasn’t been delivered. When you have hundreds of young people show up in SE to attend an event, maybe the Mayor should focus on her on backyard as reasons for the increase. No private schools would ever be as reckless as this. |
This. She wants to stop private schools but allow indoor dining and gyms? Private schools have the ability to operate more safely and controlled than publics, and you are not eating and sweating inside (assuming they have lunch outside). |
We didn't move to private for F2F in Fall 2020, but for the next bunch of years. F2F this fall would have been nice; controlling this pandemic would be nicer, but that would require the Mayor and the two governors (and the local counties) to do even more unpopular things to be effective. DCPS sounded like it did a pretty good job with DL in the spring; our county school system was a train wreck. Anything will be better than that, and I really hope that "anything" includes the DL that the local public school systems are able to offer this fall. |
Well to be fair, schools have been closed, so they couldn’t have been the cause of the spike either way. |
She doesn’t live in SE. Stop hating! |
|
It’s unlikely privates will go full virtual, at least for the start of the school year. They are running a business and understand their customers wants: some want in person learning and others wants full DL. They will offer both.
The city won’t mandate closure as they will be forced to close bars, restaurants, gyms, day care centers etc. There is reason why she said “hope.” She can’t pull the mandate trigger without a major blow to other businesses. |
Maybe but I know the school world pretty well and I think the well established schools will honor her request. Maybe smaller schools whose existence is on the line will open. |
|
Hey, DC public school parents, why are you even on this thread?
Yes, Bowser said she hoped privates would follow her decision. If you listened to her, mich of the decision was based on the teachers union not wanting to go back and she blamed it mostly on “staffing”. So basically she could not convince the teachers to go in. Why she mentioned the privates? Simple. It makes her and the DCPS look bad if they can’t get their kids and especially their teachers don’t want to go in, but DC privates can. Makes DCPS look stupid. If privates close, DC parents can’t complain. |
Yup. This is not the moment for “elitist” schools to open when publics do not and Mayor says not to either. |
|
Yes, same goes for Fairfax schools. Parents Ouse that they could not figure out a way to do at least 2 days a week but privates can. If VA privates closed, give the Fairfax and Arlington districts cover as they are doing what everyone else is doing.
Mad long as privates are open and they should be, makes the public schools look like crap for closing fully... |
Nah, you miss the point. I want the private schools to be open and the public schools should have found a way to be open at least 2 days a week... Shame on them for not finding a way to offer it.. |
I agree with you. But this moment in time for privates is not helped by the current feelings about elite anything. |
|
I understand,
But should we tell our kids to stay home and DL when the schools have the space to social distance, have teachers who want to come in and work? So we should take away their earning opportunities because DC could not get their act together. Nope. It like telling people, well since some people can afford a home, everyone who has a home should give it up? How about finding a way to help people buy a house.... |
| Private schools will not open. The liability is too great. Sorry elitist parents! |
