Bowser says she hopes private schools will be virtual

Anonymous
I did not see the VA governor tell private schools he hopes they close when most picking systems in VA announced DL..

Bowser should keep her mouth shut and let privates decide for themselves.

I think the poster is angry about his/her kids being in DC public school and is venting here.

Sorry, now go figure out ow you can help your kid work with the DL rather than complaining here..

Guys don’t take the bait on these threads. This post was probably created by a public school parent. They want to see us get anxious and fret over our schools plans - it is a case of misery loves company. So please take some of these posts and responses with a grain of salt. Some of these posters are starting these threads and then sockpuppeting within them to create a narrative. Let’s not give them that. Some of these posts are taken word for word from the MCPS and DCPS forums. Someone is looking for entertainment. Don’t feed the troll.

But should we tell our kids to stay home and DL when the schools have the space to social distance, have teachers who want to come in and work?

So we should take away their earning opportunities because DC could not get their act together. Nope.

It like telling people, well since some people can afford a home, everyone who has a home should give it up? How about finding a way to help people buy a house....

I agree 💯 but I think it is over now. Gayles and Bowser are sealing deal for DC and MD at least.

+1

What I do hope is that, if public schools are not going to properly reopen, they return some money to taxpayers.

Maybe finally we get a voucher

It is incredibly sad that the Mayor does not value education - the great equalizer. Education is hope. Hope for each and every child regardless or race, color or creed.
The directive is no school - but bars and gyms and protestors - please continue to go about your activities.

LOL, no darling, my kids are already grown. I’m just a DC resident and Bowser supporter watching all of this with interest, and find it amusing you thought you could buy your way back into the classroom. Not gonna happen!

Yes, having in person school for only the rich people who can afford to be involved in and supplement their kids' learning regardless is such an equalizer.

You really need to direct your anger to the federal level. The lack of readily available rapid testing and PPE is a huge, huge barrier to opening schools. And we have leaders who have purposely tried to prevent access to tests and PPE. Local governments cannot do this by themselves. Our country is being destroyed from the top.

Yep, exactly. Either ALL kids go back to school, or NO kids go back to school. This is a public health issue, not a public/private school issue. It’s either safe for all, or unsafe for all, just like restaurants/bars/stores/etc.

Where have you guys seen guidance that socially distanced with a mask indoors for hours in a room while cases are increasing is safe? You seem so confident about that, but I'm not seeing it. Our school announced DL a while ago, so it isn't an issue, but I'm wondering why other people don't see this problem.

Maybe the DC Mayor should advocate for stopping the spread of infection to save lives: ban indoor dining in DC as this is a NO MASK activity that spreads covid

Work together with VA & MD Gov to shut down the bars and packed indoor dining with NO MASK at the Beach Towns where Covid is raging

And show that she puts Education above $$$$ and campaign contributions

Yes, hundreds will die, and that could have been prevented. But, not by closing schools that have been closed since March

Close the Damn Bars and Indoor Dining
( You know, the group gathering of hundreds without a mask in sight )

How about enforce the mask law in DC? There was a large concert gathering (video showed almost no masks) and cops refused to enforce/fine, although law says 1000 fine.

You know, I totally agree. It’s funny that she has called out 37 states who have to quarantine if their citizens visit DC and has gyms open and likely more of these “house party/concerts” are happening. Who the heck wants to vacation in DC anyway? Nothing is open and at any time a protest may pop up. The news just showed footage of another party in PG county. WTF, it’s not like the message hasn’t been delivered.

When you have hundreds of young people show up in SE to attend an event, maybe the Mayor should focus on her on backyard as reasons for the increase.

No private schools would ever be as reckless as this.

She doesn’t live in SE. Stop hating!

"Backyard" means her city. Theres common sense. And book sense. Smh.

Not true. It's not a one or all issue. It's a space, logistics, ability to follow guidelines issue. I say this as a parent with a child in preschool since march and a child in summer camp for 6 wks. Two companies doing an amazing job of following cdc guidelines.

Nope, sorry. Private school kids do not stay in private schools. They leave and infect the community at large. If public schools stay home, they stay home too. It’s that simple. I’m glad our Mayor gets it.
