Then they also should close daycares and forbid pods of too many children. A large university or public school is not the same as some of the small private schools. Personally, I think restaurants should be closed to indoor dining, gyms closed, but lower grades at small schools allowed to open (otherwise daycares should be shut too- but that would cause lots of problems for essential workers). |
| Closing the schools was already tried and it got us nowhere. Ocean City boardwalk open though! It's just a damn shame that Trump screwed the pooch so royally. Now we just have to sit around and wait for a vaccine to be available and distributed and there's no way of knowing how many years that might be. The US is a dump. |
This is tangential to the thread but is this what in person school will be like for HS students? What would the point be and why wouldn't teachers come in if students are coming in? |
So much disinformation in this post, particularly the bolded. That may be true for a very small handful of schools, but I assure you private schools do not have millions to spend on this crisis as a whole, let alone cleaning. And most are not opening. Also the implication in the last sentence: are you suggesting that because schools haven't been the cause of spread while closed, that when they do open they will not be a cause of spread either? Total nonsense. |
Most privates do not have that kind of margin, agreed. |
I don’t know what you all are thinking ‘in person’ School will be like. A masked teacher, lecturing from the front of the room, no group work, no collaboration, half the class at home watching the masked teacher give a motionless lecture, etc. rinse and repeat every week. At least with distance learning kids can see the teachers faces, interact with classmates, etc. Schools being ‘open’ doesn’t mean school as normal. |
| Pubic school teacher please get off this thread. I am fine with a masked teacher. So are the parents. Get to work please! |
| public school teacher-sorry that was a typo. |
+1 |
Private school teachers are not. Good luck. You will see in the coming weeks. Fire us all. Nobody wants to get sick or die because you feel Like you paid for in person school regardless of a global pandemic. Admin not telling you about the teacher meetings. As more and more schools close do you think Dc private school teachers will go back? Good luck with the janitor leading your cohort/pod this fall. |
I am not fine with that. Stop trying to silence people who disagree with you. We should hear all points of view. --private school parent. |
You are in a bubble. Not everyone in your school agrees with you. |
I don't feel stupid, just angry against people like Elrich, Bowser and you. |
| Ha ha ha ha ha! No private school in Montgomery County! Announced last night. That is the last nail in the coffin for DC privates. Bowser will announce soon. If public can’t go, private can’t go. Fair is fair. How does it feel to throw all that money down the drain? LOL. |
This. And the masked teacher scenario is FOR ALL SCHOOLS. Half sized classes, cautious teachers, masked students sitting motionless in a classroom, encased in plexiglass, while the other half watches a boring class of masked children get a lecture from a small screen at home. That's it. That's what you're all clamoring for to ReOpEn the SCHOOOLLLZZZZ! |
