But outing him like this is just ugly. I hope this story slinks back to the sewers where it belongs.

No. Honestly, it’s he and his ardent supporters who think this anything about his sexual orientation is ugly. He should not take advantage of these sex workers while supporting completely discriminatory policies in his office. The hypocrisy has to end. He and his supporters are the ones who have a problem with the truth. That’s on them.

DP. Could you list the "discriminatory policies" please. Be specific. Thanks.

Another DP.

The boldest is the most critical takeaway. You’re focusing on the wrong thing. As usual. Most people don’t GAF if he is gay. They do care if he is hypocritical. Because he had the power to oppress the very same choices that he exercises.

Mmkay, as expected, you didn't even answer the question. I have no idea what you're blabbering about, but it in no way answers the bolded question.

Even Obama himself evolved on his gay marriage stance. He was not a proponent of gay marriage until 2012. In 2008 he said, "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage." So really, stop being hypocritical about Graham's evolution on gay marriage.

From your link, Graham's most recent stances:

"But, the court has ruled, so here's where I stand. If I'm president of the United States, here's what would happen. If you have a church, a mosque, or a synagogue, and you're following your faith, and you refuse to perform a same-sex marriage, because it's outside the tenets of your faith, you will not lose your tax-exempt status. If you're a gay person or a gay couple, if I'm president of the United States, you will be able to participate in commerce and be a full member of society, consistent with the religious beliefs of others who have rights also." (2015)

"Graham says the nation should accept the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage. Speaking to the Boston Herald Radio in May, Graham said he personally believes in traditional marriage," but that America must be ready to move on following the decision of the Supreme Court on the issue." (2015)

Did you miss this part? "Graham says the nation should accept the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage." We're all entitled to our personal beliefs. What matters is his commitment to uphold the SC decision.

He's probably said some unfortunate things about being gay, as have most gay people, because the world teaches them to hate themselves. But you're the one saying unfortunate things now, acting like he should be ashamed of himself for who he loves. You don't get a pass. It's wrong, full stop.

I am not sure who is mocking him- I as the OP was not trying to whatsoever, and just provided factual info about what was happening. Graham has been a major supporter of trump and it does seem he’s compromised in some way as he spoke out against trump and criticized him more before a turning point a few years ago. He supports an administration that does extreme harm to minorities and LGBTQ people. I would be happy if he’s voted out of office. Nothing wrong with him being gay, but everything else he does.

Newsflash: support of gay rights is correlated to age, not party. Boomers and above are against gay rights, millennials and below are strongly in favor of gay rights. So you can make this argument about any boomer politician. And someone upthread talked about him selling out McCain- yeah, McCain lost me too when he led the crusade against being able to serve openly as gay in the military. Remember that? Gay people have had to make a lot of compromises in life and being a gay boomer politician from South Carolina can't have been an easy road. It's fine to say you don't agree with him on his stances or his on again, off again support of Trump but he doesn't *owe* the left political fealty because he's gay. He doesn't owe you anything because he's gay. He has every right to all of his choices about keeping his sexuality secret, and to any of his political ideas. He's as equal as you.

Well said.

No big deal, right?

Right.

More slowly this time: because as a United States Senator, he can be blackmailed. Apparently he is being blackmailed at least by Trump.

How can he be blackmailed? I am extremely confident that his colleagues are aware of his preferences but unlike DCUM, no one demands that he announce it. Where you work, do all the gay people have to tell you they are gay, or otherwise let you know by being your sassy gay friend? I hate to break it to you but gay people are just normal people, and like a normal person, their sex lives are none of your business. So there's nothing here to blackmail. If someone wants to out him, they can take a number because the media outs him every few years. Also.... are you suggesting that gay people shouldn't be senators unless they openly declare their gayness? Honestly liberals are as idiotic about this stuff as boomer Republicans.

I don’t know. I agree that his being gay (or being suspected of being gay) is a pretty open secret and I don’t knew if it’s blackmailable. But you have to admit that the man went from being pro-McCain, somewhat rational, very anti Trump to being one of the biggest Trump cheerleaders. It was a strange and noticeable about face. I don’t think you can blame folk for thinking that Trump has something on LG. I have no idea what it is.

Were it not for the anti-LGBT policies, I would whole-heartedly agree with you! All other things being equal, we should not criticize what goes on between two consenting adults.

DP. There are no "anti-LGBT" policies.

Just as there is no institutionalized racism? Sure, look where that discourse led to...

Do you know that trans people are the population the most at risk of being murdered?

So then, you're simply unable to list these "anti-LGBT" policies. Got it. Why didn't you just say so?

No one is mocking him. And it’s one thing to say negative things about being gay as an extension of self-loathing due to society’s bias and another to promote hateful legislation.

What "hateful legislation" is he promoting?

Obama opposed gay marriage until 2012. Hillary Clinton didn't support gay marriage until 2013. By 2015, LG was publicly pushing the GOP abandon its stance against gay marriage. Facts are important and perspective is important. You can justify this homophobic attack on him all you want because he is Republican but NO ONE should be shamed for their sexual orientation regardless of their beliefs. Gay people do not have to agree with you. They owe you nothing.

I actually think you are right. The biggest harm that Graham does is in confirming judges that often have anti-gay stances. But I agree that he did “evolve” on gay marriage.

And what judges have "anti-gay" stances?

McCain might be a hero of the left but he was the largest stumbling block to gay rights in the military. He was the one who insisted they survey the troops to get their opinion on whether or not to allow civil rights. On what other issue are troops surveyed (and I say this as a vet- the military was the first institution to integrate, had interracial marriages well before the general public- it's the ideal place for integration). McCain stood in the way of progress on gay rights. Trump is just another in a long line of boomers intent on "telling people like it is" and if it werent him it would be some other loud mouthed know it all (hi, Biden) until this godforsaken generation finally leaves us for the golf course, and we can pick up the pieces.

Blackmail isn't really a thing with gay people anymore.

So much non-information on this thread. Or rather, gossip and innuendo. No facts at all. Liberals: do you really think you can say whatever you want and no one will fact-check you? Those of you claiming Trump is somehow “blackmailing” Graham sound utterly moronic. Unless you have something factual to share, run along and stop trafficking in breathless speculation.

This poster is right. It is easy to mock Lindsey Graham because he is a craven hypocrite. But it’s not ok to highlight his gayness in the hope that “bigoted South Carolina folk” vote for the black guy instead.

Actually, I think “the black guy” would be a much better legislator than Graham, so I don’t really care why the voters would vote for him. Graham has been elected too long and props up the trash that is the president.

So the sex worker says that he had to sign an NDA with Graham as did all the other sex workers he knows who have been with Graham. Is gay prostitution legal and why would Graham need to have NDAs signed?

I agree that being gay is not an issue.

I would have more respect for Lindsay if he were being blackmailed. Otherwise, I'm led to believe he actually went all in on Trump. Sad!

Because having sex with prostitutes AT ALL is a scandal for politicians. You seriously don't understand this stuff?

This thread is amusing. So far, all these claims about Graham's "destructive LGBT" policies. And yet not one has been cited. I guess it's just easier for lazy people to make claims and hope no one calls them on it.
