You are really stupid. Duke is ranked ahead of 3 schools in the Ivy League. Its NUMBER 10 in the country. There are only 9 schools ranked higher. You really sound moronic so I hope you never say this crap n public. |

Welcome to the real world buddy. Does anyone really pick Duke over Brown or Dartmouth? Not in the DMV. Duke is a backup for kids who did pretty well. Didn't get into Princeton, Penn, Dartmouth, or Northwestern? Then Duke. Better than ending up at Emory or Vanderbilt. That's where the kid goes that didn't get into Duke. |

This is silly. Again. All these Duke hater/experts who probably have never actually faced these decisions about which they speak so authoritatively. I personally picked Duke over Northwestern and Penn in 1997. At that time, Duke was ranked higher than both those schools (and Brown and Dartmouth, which are both great schools). I’m not sure what the rank is now but let’s just say it’s 10 as other posters claim. Why do you care so much? Meanwhile, babbling PP probably picked Maryland over American....smh |

| My kids got into top schools this year from a private. Ask me anything. I looked at Holton, GDS, Potomac, Sidwell, etc. placements on social media and while my kid doesn't go there, anecdotally, I would say Holton probably has a slight edge. SLACs were worst case scenarios for a lot of folks. My kids got top schools off of the waitlists which I think was helped with full pay. |

Let me ask you. Where did YOU go to college? Did you go to college? As for regrets, as I think someone else said earlier, I’ve been pretty happy with the fruits of my Duke degree in my work life. Sure, my magnets and flags are apparently deficient but my professional life has been pretty sweet. Ha |

The point is that Michigan has more credence in metro DC, not that it’s a better school. For many, a choice of school is about the value of the alumni network and the size and loyalty of Michigan’s network is an advantage over Duke, plain and simple. In professional hiring offices throughout DC, and law schools, medical schools, etc..., the Duke alum gets hired/accepted before the Michigan alum all else being equal. Duke is a terrific school, and certainly more competitive on admissions than Michigan - but it simply does not have the depth or range of alumni network to compete on that front. It does not make Duke any less than the great school it is, but it’s size and demographic will always keep it regional in reputation and scope. |
