It's been said 10,000x but you really can't judge an entire community by DCUM. There's no percentage in trying to defend GDS on DCUM (as I'm sure will be proven by responses to this post) so many actual parents just stop trying. The majority of what's left is posts from haters/trolls/fake boosters, many easily identifiable by language and style but mysteriously still successful at stirring people up. |
This is factually incorrect for the Catholic schools my children attend. If this has been your experience, I am sorry and maybe you should consider moving on to a different school or trying to make change in your current school. I have a son at Prep and can tell you they emphasize diversity, independence, leadership, and initiative all while focusing on their “mission of forming men of competence, conscience, commitment and compassion; men of faith, men for others”. They have sent countless grads to Ivy League schools as well as many other top schools. Generalizing you’re statements to all catholic schools is inaccurate and offensive. |
I didn't send my kid to private school because my goal was that 12 years later they would get into HYP I sent DC to private because our DCPS in our ward had more than 50% of class below grade level in reading/math on Grade 3, 4& 5 ERB's. In other words clear marker of what DC's classroom would be like from Pre-K onward with 35 kids in a class to boot DC was admitted with FA And 12 years later what I value is the great education DC has gotten and all the wonderful experiences and memories along the way. Great that kids seem to be getting same admit percentages to great post-secondary schools whether they went to DCPS or MD/ NOVA public or DC private, but what we wanted was a great early childhood learning environment and same in MS/ HS. The rest takes care of itself |
+1 What a load of crappy stereotyping! |

Elon? never heard of it. |
No 2020 Prep grads are going to Elon. The above poster is just a lying hater. Fake News. Of course, there is nothing wrong with Elon and I know of grads from both STA and Landon who have attended. |
I am sorry that my family’s experience....did not conform to your own. |
Who said anything about conforming, besides you? Expressing that we had a different experience and made suggestions that your experience is not the norm and you should either advocate for change or switch schools. |
I attended both schools. Michigan over Duke only for Michigan residents and the low tuition. Duke tops Michigan for everything else. Not that close really. |
Clearly this is not accurate as it relates to Michigan’s engineering programs. They are superior to Dukes. |
Wow. You, sir, are the epitome of an ass... |
Duke has ALWAYS been all NJ/NY. When I was in college 25 or so years ago, we referred to it as the University of New Jersey at Durham. And that was not a compliment. |
+1 Completely agree. Duke is an intellectual institution. UM is a jock school. |
