I was responding to PP’s claim because we actually are given rights through a document like the Constitution, even if we didn’t sign it. It’s the notion of a social contract, which is an implicit agreement between an individual and a government to protect said individual in exchange for him/her giving up certain rights/ freedoms for the greater good.
