Murder in Ballston

OP here. Thank you to the poster who provided the update!

It's mind boggling that it took a year for police to release this video. What a pity, because had they released it last year, there would likely have been a lot more information uncovered.

Early on it seemed like the police knew something and had a suspect, but with the latest turn that doesn't seem to be the case.

It seems extremely unlikely that someone would enter a random apartment building, select a unit at random, and stab someone to death with no particular motive - not to mention they'd have no way of knowing if someone were home at all, if multiple people were there, etc. Especially in a relatively safe neighborhood.

I always assumed it was someone known to the victim and the killing was over some type of dispute, and that the police know who it is but don't have evidence to charge them. But now they are releasing surveillance of a barely-identifiable person, so it seems they don't know who it is?

Something just seems so off here. Either a random killer is at loose who was able to overpower a 24 year old, healthy looking young man (in which case - why isn't there more concern??) or the police know a lot more than they're saying...yet don't know who the actual culprit was. Very strange.

Nothing about this seems random to me.

Drugs, jilted lover, or he worked for an ABC agency and got smoked (his job title is pretty unremarkable/easily overlooked)

I would think it would've been...cleaner if this was it. The nature of the killing makes it seem pretty personal.

He was knifed and the mess was cleaned up with bleach. Seems pretty clean to me. Unless the murderer had a silencer the gunshot would have woken neighbors and even then -- the blood splatter would have been harder to remove.

The comments section of that article mentions a discrepancy in shoe color and backpacks.

Agree that the person looks like a female Cross-fitter. Hips and bulky thighs along with slimmer calves is a dead give-away.

Don’t know why the person ran across the pedestrian crossing. The streets seem uncrowded for 5:30pm...

Looking at the photo in the linked article, I can see from some angles how it looks like a woman from behind.

However, the close up of the POI's chest makes me think it is male. Look at how broad and flat the chest is, and look at how seriously developed the deltoid muscles are. Virtually no women have deltoid muscles that are that large, unless they are on steroids and/or are a compete at the national level in Crossfit or something.

I think there is a good chance the POI might be Hispanic (but who knows), possibly a soccer player. If you run a google image search for South American male soccer players, you will see that many of them are built exactly like this person. They're often very short, muscular, many have thick thighs, an so on...

I also think the gait might be fake, or it might just be an injury from the crime. The gait is not consistent, and at one point in the video you see the POI further exaggerate his/her gait. It makes me wonder if it was an act.

It's a man with a very distinctive gait. You can't fake bowed legs.

Then why does the gait seem so inconsistent at different points in the video?

Could be faking walk--I agree almost looked exaggerated at one point in video.

I thought it sort of looked like they’re trying to have some thing not fall out of their pants/and or not have the shoes come off because they’re not their own size.

This is a wild story. I believe killer is male and seems like a pro. That poor kid's family. No justice after a year and maybe never.

I'm confused why there is not more public concern on this. Such an unusual crime for that part of town, no clear motive (robbery, etc.) and victim seemed to be a normal kid and not seem to be involved in anything shady. And the police hardly share anything but a grainy video a year later?

Means he could've secretly been working for FBI, CIA etc.

Yeah. Maybe all the tumult of the past year (COVID, Trump, Racial unrest) drowned out the public outrage? I am surprised too. I used to work around there and walked by that building and street all the time.

Terrible. You would think by now if it were drug related or sex related we’d know because there would be an electronic trail. I’m always surprised there isn’t more crime in Arlington with the amount of cocaine and alcohol consumption in the area.
