Are those in favor of redistributing students thinking it’s better for some to go to Westland over Silver Creek because of diversity. And same for sending Westland students to Silver Creek? Despite the long bus rides. Which means if that happens the same voices will complain about lengthy bus rides a couple years later. All so odd how opinions change from one extreme to another and back in the theory of its the right thing now.

How long would the bus ride be? Westland is over capacity. More like, some from Westland would go to Silver Creek.

But, I'm confused. I am looking at Silver Creek At a glance, and there doesn't seem to be any 8th graders. Where did the 8th graders go?

They hadn't gotten there yet.

Correct, Silver Creek opened with just 6th and 7th graders because they didn’t want to move the 8th graders just for one year. Which I understand and agree with. My daughter was in the class that stayed at Westland for 8th despite the new school being a mile away - she’s a sophomore now.

Oh, I hadn't realized it's a new build. Looking at the numbers, it's already at or just above capacity. So, when they add in 8th graders, it will be above capacity.... in the four years since it was built. And nearby Westland is also over capacity.

MCPS really does a terrible job at enrollment projections. No wonder they need to pay $ for a boundary consultant.

Westland is not over capacity. It’s under. And MCPS is terrible with forecasting class sizes. Everyone should be able to agree with that.

.. which is why we need to have boundaries redrawn.

I joined both FB groups. About a week ago, it was clear there were more members on the page that leans anti-busing, anti-BOE. The other page was clearly pro BOE as there is a former BOE member there who chimes in regularly. Now those voices have been drowned out by parents who are very concerned about the direction MCPS and BOE are taking. I love seeing our democracy and free speech in action. If there is enough outrage, we just might be able to keep our kids close to home, where they belong.

Has either group talked about putting up someone to run for BOE? There's a spot opening up next year due to retirement. That seems like a good way for democracy to work -- getting a person elected who represents your interests.

They have been terrible at it for many years and still go by the same models that don't take into account the massive amounts of Illegal Immigrants that flock to MC because we are a sanctuary county.

But the students who used to go to Westland and now go to Silver Creek have parents who don't want their kids at Westland because of how long the bus ride is for them. Which means your concept, which makes you feel good about yourself, does not match what historical facts tell us about drawing boundaries among those schools.

Heard it was a snooze fest. Not as many involved parents in that area.

They were probably working their second or third job. Many people do that just to get a roof over their kids' heads and some food on the table Look up the working poor and even homeless in America. It is a huge issue. Why don't you research it a bit instead of shopping at Westfield?

Meaning people conducted themselves like responsible adults and listened to the information being presented?

Wow. Actually it was because they are more supportive of the study there. I guess that means they’re not involved? You’re a peach.

"Involved" in what? Booing, heckling, and jeering?

People at the White Oak MS meeting apparently behaved like responsible adults, which is more than can be said for the people at the Julius West MS meeting.
