Better and more cost effective to bus little Randolf and Emily to Gaithersburg HS.

MCPS couldn't even afford to purchase the Washington Adventist Hospital site (which was actually available) for a new HS site inside the beltway.

The one in Takoma Park? Was that really a proposal? That would have been great although I don't know if Flower/Carroll Aves could have handles the traffic.

It was under consideration last year when they were deciding where to put Northwood in a holding school for 2 years during construction of its building. Ultimately, they decided acquiring new property was cost-prohibitive and they'd use the new Woodward building for that instead, delaying Woodward's reopening by 2 years.

They were talking about that property on NPR yesterday. I do not remember who was talking but they said there are restrictions on how that property could be used. The county was not allowed to purchase it due to those restrictions. They were talking about low income housing in the discussion not schools but probably the same issue.

I don't think MCPS ever seriously took up the question of the hospital land. It may have been due to traffic considerations, cost considerations, or a strategic decision that MCPS should not acquire that particular plot of land. I agree with PPs that it would have been great, and provided much-needed relief to Blair, but it was never discussed in any serious way.

Why don’t we keep our eye on the ball and focus on providing services to children in need and not totally screwing up mcps?

Or maybe it’s better to let the fringes go off on these tangents - idk.

So if I'm reading this correctly..... what you are saying is that you would like the government to seize the old White Flint property and build a massive trailer park, right?

Tbh I’m not clear on what is going in at White Flint and is follow that pretty closely. But I would expect affordable housing will be included.

Yes. If a new development with more than 20 housing units goes up in MoCo, it must have at least 12.5% low-cost housing, and often it's 15% (varies by project).

There are other kids in many other schools going to other different schools that are even farther then what should be there base school Mcps or are a lot closer to there base school my sister lives in Mcps her kids go to sherwood, but it’s 5.1 miles away James hubert Blake is 2.3 miles how unfair.

Look I get it. Your mind is made up. You think MoCo is segregated and THE ONLY solution is busing. My mind is not made up and I’d like to hear what others have to say. You calling them racists and/or segregationists silences some people, just as those who booed or heckled at the meeting silenced people. Both are power plays and not helpful if you want a solution people will buy into.

They need to be silenced. I am tired of white people privilege and narrative. I am tired of African Americans being told to get over it and it is their fault they are still poor and uneducated and can't afford a place in a better school. Same goes for Hispanic population. It is more their country than white peoples! None of the "get over narrative" has a spec of truth in it! Imagine if in 1600 you arrived here and you were shackled for the next 450 years? Even when you got your "freedom" white people would not provide buses for AA kids and did provide for white kids. Imagine schools teaching you(as recent California standard tried to put in) that only those AAs who didn't observe the societal norms of racial behavior got lunched! Oh, if only they obeyed, they would be fine! Now, imagine the whole society that has put negative images of AA males who are dangerous and women who speak their mind are called hysterical? Imagine walking into a store, and someone following you the whole time? Even though you earn more than the guard at the store? Racists need to shut up or get educated. AA people only got a chance to walk, to walk a few decades ago due to persistent racism in this country. And I am not even AA! So, quite frankly, white people in the U.S. need to start acknowledging that even those that claim are enlightened propagate racism and are racist. You are all in favor of no racism as long as your witness is not touched.

Silenced? Wow.

Then the African American parents who spoke at the meeting? Watch the video before you stick your foot in your mouth again.

Are you sure they are African American? They could be recent African diaspora. There is a difference. Of course, the only thing you do when you see difference is to run away.

Put down the beer and read. You think everyone is white, even when they are African American.

The people who were african Americans and 80 percent of people who spoke plus 100 of people under 18 advocated for boundary change for diversity and I implore parents here to think about the future of the world and your children future do you want them in such a conceded world or do you want them to be in a world that open about diversity and it called United States. I live in the sherwood cluster. We are also one of the best and I would be fine if people from other cultureS were in school because it wouldn’t make my kids surrounded by there own race, but others around them to experience other cultures. All the Whitman, Churchill and Bcc parents saying there against the boundary analysis and think it shouldn’t happen while just being stuck up with there money. Remember that there are some people who have a lot more money then you who live in other clusters who manage a hedge fund(Me) you all making 6 figures. If you want to bring up superiority with money bring it up with me because my annual 8 figure income will show you what coming from diverse school can show you.
