Lab-Grown Diamond

Anonymous
Even natural diamonds aren’t rare. They are only rare because Debeers hoards them to create fake scarcity.

Get the lab grown.

There are lots of us on this thread, not just one. But go ahead and buy a lab diamond if you want to invest your money in pissing people off. It's no better reason I guess than in faking that you own a real diamond.

Honest don't worry you are very special and unique, just like a mined diamond. We can all see it.

Nice try but too late. You made my point.

I’m typing from my phone and planned to go back and add them later. Sorry. I can tell from your posts you aren’t super intelligent and need everything spelled out for you.

I actually am super intelligent. At least enough to know when a counterfeit bill is shopped to me and I'm told, "if you look at it closely you'll see it's made out of the exact same material as a real bill --even an expert can't tell the difference!" that doesn't make it a real bill. A real bill is made by the government. A real diamond is made by the earth.

That analogy makes no sense. I suppose it’s all well and good you married someone who could afford a “real” diamond

It would be like 2.5-3 instead of 1, yes. So, a pretty significant change.

No. A 3ct fake diamond is vulgar.

Only if it looks fake. Lab created on high a high quality, tastefully designed setting is not vulgar. Diamonds are such a shake down.

It will look fake because it is obvious you and your basic fiancé don’t have the kind of money to frivolously drop on a natural near flawless 3 ct diamond ring.

It’s like the teenagers walking around with giant diamond studs. Pretty sure you don’t need a scope to tell you they aren’t real.

Lol. You realize they don’t use a “scope” (believe you mean loupe) to tell whether it’s mined or lab grown, right? It needs to be run through a carbon testing machine. A jeweler can’t even tell by looking.

WTF are you talking about, “carbon testing machine.” Lab diamonds are made of carbon and look the same under the loupe usually. A gemologist would have to send it to GIA or another lab to separate manufactured diamonds from mined.

Some people in this thread clearly mean CZ, not lab diamonds.

They must. I have never seen a lab diamond sold for $30...

I remember super low prices on the lab grown yellow diamonds when they first came out. Yes, diamonds.

I have a 2.3 carat natural diamond. We spent $10,000 at a gem show that comes through here a few times a year. Google Intergem and plan to take a Friday off work. They should be back in town before Valentines. There is a mix of wholesalers and retailers.

Also, try on a few rings in different carat weights ahead of time. I didn’t know I wanted a big ring until I tried it on.

How big? Tiny diamonds aren’t expensive whether mined or lab. I remember those early days too and they were cheap but not $30 cheap and were tiny.

Seriously. Diamonds aren't rare! It's just marketing and manipulation of the market!

I know some smug buzzfeed article told you this, but it’s not true. High quality diamonds are rare, and they are no longer subject to monopolistic pricing.

This is a fascinating thread. You’ve got people who don’t know that cubic zirconium is NOT what OP is asking about, that lab created diamonds are indeed actual diamonds (as defined by chemical composition - carbon - and molecular structure - lined up).

OP, if you want a diamond, I would 100% go with a lab created diamond. Mining is so devastating to the people, the land and the environment. There is no way that the energy costs of creating diamonds is as bad as mining.

Although if you really wanted something with zero environmental cost, get an estate stone. That cost is all taken care of, so to speak.

1) I’m a millennial
2) I’m the better-informed antitrust lawyer in this thread
3) I own both lab and mined diamonds.

Actually, it was the NYT.

Then NYT was wrong. As was that Atlantic article Reddit loves.
