Go to WashU.
Why go to UVA Just rednecks in blazers. Wlo needs that. Please. |
| Wow... you folks argue like kids. All of you. |

At $300k income level, cost is a huge factor. You are looking at $170k after tax for 4 years.
It’s very hard to justify that outside of HYPMS and a few top LACs. |
LOL You haven't kept up. The Virginia State Council of Higher Education reports that for admitted (not accepted, which are higher stats) students in fall 2018, the top 25% median had a 4.48 GPA, median 50% had a 4.38 and the bottom quarter of the class had a 4.16. The median ACT for top 25% was 34, median 50% was a 32 and bottom 25% is a 30. For the class of 2023, the average SAT is a 1480. http://research.schev.edu//enrollment/B10_FreshmenProfile.asp |
Right. With 40% minorities for class of 2023, and students from over 150 nations and all 50 states. Why such hatred? https://news.virginia.edu/content/wahoowa-uva-releases-admissions-decisions |
Emory has always had higher test scores than UVA, before and after their scandal. |
Emory kids are ivy Calibur if you mean Cornell, you probably didn't. WashU has merit scholarships as well. |
Well of course they claim they offer merit scholarships. They cost $70K a year. The fact is that most top schools simply don't offer any merit at all. You have to drop down a tier or two to see any significant money. Even with some offers of $26K off the price tag from some southern schools you have never heard of (and solicited my DS because they had bought the high scoring ACT list), it was still far cheaper to go to UVA at then $32K a year. |
Actually, UVA's ACT scores for top 25% are higher than Emory's. |
Vanderbilt, WashU, Rice, Emory, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Duke, UVA, UCB, and UCLA all offer Merit Scholarships. |
That's a lie UVA 1330-1500 30-34 https://ias.virginia.edu/cds-2018-19 Emory 1350-1520 31-34 http://opb.emory.edu/documents/data/Emory-Common-Data-Set-2018-2019.pdf |

If you have in-state tuition in Virginia, I don't think outcomes for these schools would be too much different from UVA (or W&M) and the cost differential would be significant, so I would say no and wouldn't think too much about it.
When you get to a school the caliber of Princeton, I'd likely think otherwise. I'm not quite sure where the crossover takes place in this hypothetical. |
| Those privates are not more prestigious than UVA, particularly in the DC area. |
College is more important than either a house or a marriage. It changed my life more than either. |
Maybe going to college did. But not the particular one you went to. |
