When are Woodward boundaries going to be decided?

Kensington is likely to be part of Einstein. It doesn't make any sense to not attend school so close. That's why countywide boundary study will take place. Einstein boundary will change a lot because currently Einstein is overcrowded. KP should surely go to Einstein.

This is merely a theory on DCUM and not based at all in reality. In reality, Einstein is overcrowded now and projected to get more so. “It doesn’t make any sense” for MCPS to throw a totally unnecessary bomb to move an entire elementary school’s worth of kids into an already overcrowded school.

You can connect the dots of last few resolutions and actions of BOE. It's not a wild speculation.

Einstein won't be over crowded once boundaries are shifted due to Woodward. KP should go to nearest HS to optimize distance and it will also balance demography. That's the goal of BOE.

It’s like they are building a whole new city in North Bethesda. Crazy.

WJ and Woodward, both will be made up of kids from WJ+DCC.

BOE is not going to simply shift 500 kids from WJ to Woodward and keep all current kids in WJ. This goes against their diversity having more weight.

It goes against their re-opening Woodward so that Walter Johnson and Einstein aren't so over capacity.

WJ can be below capacity by first moving 1500 current students to Woodward and then taking 1000 new students from DCC.

Woodward's capacity will be 2700. You'd have to move all of the current Walter Johnson students to Woodward. And then move students from Einstein to an emptied Walter Johnson? What would be the sense in that?

Why do you need to move entire WJ to Wooward. You will move half of WJ to Woodward. Then fill Woodward and WJ from DCC ES's. That way demography will be balanced with capacity.

Yep.

Avoid buying in Wootton cluster because this is the most likely scenario. Just rent and enjoy the school, but do not invest.

I keep reading on DCUM that people want to go to their neighborhood schools! So KP should be happy to get rezoned to Einstein - right?

MCPS needs to acquire the Adventist Hospital site and open a new downcounty HS.

MCPS will use under projected numbers and within few years we will have over crowding again. But boundaries are going to be decided based on whatever projections MCPS has right now.

No, boundaries will be decided with the projects that MCPS has when MCPS does the boundary study, 18 months before the school opens as Woodward.

And geography.

NBMS schools stay at WJ + 2 DCC ES. Tilden schools move to Woodward + 2 DCC ES + magnet. You're welcome.

Does that leave two ES at Einstein? Or do you move some over from Wheaton or something? Moving 4 ES seems like pretty big takeaway from Einstein.

Ready for it! And move the early college program there. It’s walking distance to MC-Takoma and busses to go to MC-Rockville.

There are six ESs going to Einstein now.

When Woodward was open before, Viers Mill went there and now goes to Wheaton. I fully expect Viers Mill to go back to Woodward. Less sure about Shriver.

Ahh Viers Mill. I knew there was another ES that went to Woodward back in the day.

If you do and look to stay in WJ, my analysis is def avoid WJ assigned part of Kensington - there is at least 50/50 they will get reassigned, and there is a $150k-$200k differential for WJ in every single one of those homes. That is what every single family stands to lose, more so with recent buyers.

Try to buy in North Bethesda MS. I also think that, as long as you are in the lower market segment, your housing value will more or less maintain itself.

A lot of misinformation in this post. Kensington Parkwood ES is zoned for North Bethesda MS. Also, the disparity in Kensington is due to one area being zoned for WJ (GS 9 score) and one area being zoned for Einstein (GS 5). If Kensington Parkwood gets rezoned to Woodward, I’m guessing Woodward will be at least a GS 7, if not higher.
