When are Woodward boundaries going to be decided?

Anonymous
Looking to move into the WJ cluster, but don't want to buy a house that ends up in another cluster.

Thanks!

Probably the year it opens. So if it opens in September, it should be decided by spring or summer.

Thank you. Is it pretty formalized that Woodward will be open in 2025 or is there still wiggle room on that?

So if it will open in Sept 2025 then spring of 2025 they will decide. Don’t expect them to decide early. There will be a huge fight/discussion on it for at least a year before while they woke on boundaries and look for input. I live in Rockville and it was like that when they opened a new ES. For WJ/Woodward it might be even worse. If you’re worried you’ll lose money in six years then buy close to WJ - walkzone.

That's no guarantee.

Walter Johnson will be fine. Woodward will be fine. Buy a house you can afford, in a neighborhood you like.

Boundary decisions are usually made the November before the fall when the school opens/reopens.

MCPS is in the process of having a consultant reconsider all MCPS boundaries. Even if you do not have the Woodward issue there could be another round later.

No, MCPS is not. MCPS is in the process of having a consultant look at how existing school and cluster boundaries support or hinder the effective use of school facilities in MCPS.

OP here again.

Actually, I just thought of something.
My child is slated to enter high school in the fall of 2024.
If Woodward opens only in 2025, even if our location becomes zoned for Woodward in November 2024 or spring 2025 (according to different posters), they won't change her high school, right?

They never move rising seniors. They might move rising juniors. They would almost certainly move rising freshmen and rising sophomores.

I heard Woodward was going to be a combo of WJ and Kennedy.

Woodward is supposed to relieve overcrowding at WJ and for the DCC. DCC schools are Blair, Einstein, Kennedy, Northwood, and Wheaton. The arts magnet would likely take students from the entire county.
