Sure let's have a restroom where teen boys and girls can go into private stalls and do whatever they want. We all know what happened at RHS and that was a single sex restroom with the regular stalls. Stoooopid. Pls MCPS..I was trying really hard to like you. Pls don't F this one up. You already have overcrowded schools and trying to implement a new curriculum. Pls for the love find something else to spend our money on.

We already have that, don't we? We already have private stalls, without monitors.

Private stalls meaning doors that go from ceiling to floor. No, we don't have those today. We have semi private where you can see someone's feet.

I didn't realize that visible feet means not private.

If the door goes from the floor to the ceiling, that's not a stall. That's a room.

The argument here seems to be that bathroom rooms are bad because they don't have enough privacy and also because they have too much privacy.

No, that is not the argument.

Some PPs above explained that bathrooms are a safe space for girls to talk about things that they may not want to discuss in the hallways with hormonal teenage boys around. Taking that space away is partly the issue.

So, it's actually not about bathrooms at all, it's about safe spaces for girls to talk about things without boys around?

Oh hell no, even if doors are floor-to-ceiling and there are no gaps in partitions ( as there are in nearly every stall bathroom). I’m an adult and do not want to be changing a tampon with my male colleague in the next stall. And then add in the maturity factor of a school setting. Just no.

With actual walls and doors (“cubicle”?), maybe. But that arrangement is likely not feasible in schools.

Yes. It's partly that but also the fact that it will be an all gender restroom with private floor to ceiling stalls provide an easy way for kids who are up to no good to do whatever the hell they want in there. There are 2000+ teenagers in some of these high schools. Do you really expect all of them will act responsibbly and respectfully?

I wouldn't expect them to act less responsibly and respectfully than they are right now.

I just do not understand that. You're in a room, and you're inhibited by the presence of somebody in the next room?

Have any of you hysterical cows even been in a unisex bathroom?

It’s not a big deal AT ALL.

Exactly. Which is why I disagree with this idea. MCPS needs to just stay in their lane by focusing on educating our kids effectively in a safe and healthy environment. Focus on that instead of these random side projects that don't contribute to that.

+1.

What a dumb and frankly dangerous idea, I hope it goes nowhere fast.

Hey fellow cow, yes I have. Are you too old too to remember how immature and irresponsible teenagers are?

The "safe and healthy environment" is explicitly a goal of this idea, whether or not you agree that the idea would achieve this goal.

And they need to find a different way then because while this one attempts to solve a problem for the 3 percent, it created a bigger safety issue for all.

When I read this nonsense written here, I find it hard to imagine that these ludites actually live here.

Not just a safety issue but a psychiatric issue . This will cause severe anxiety. My experience of HS we didn’t have stall doors and even that caused mere severe bathroom issues decades later

Have you been in a coed bathroom shared by a thousand high-schoolers?

I don't think so.

Well, if it is not a big deal, why don't the county just not waste money on it?

If it could be done with a snap of fingers, nothing else needed, then "it is not a big deal at all" would possibly be a valid argument for it.
