MCPS Looking Into 'All-Gender' Bathrooms in Schools

If this doesn't get the attention of every rational thinking parent in Monco then nothing will! This is sheer insanity! Why should kids going through puberty have one more f-ing thing to worry about in school? Girls getting their periods first the first time, already unsure, having to use tampons and pads in stalls next to boys. I can not believe this! Furious!

I am so glad my kids are going to private schools in the next two years. If this goes into effect, there will be a mass exodus of parents who can afford private. Watch the overall scores of the schools rank even further. Trampling on the rights of many, especially young girls to appease a very very small minority. As if Monco doesn't have other more important issues to throw money at like overcrowding and a crappy failing curriculum. Man does this pi$$ me off!

In stalls with floor to ceiling walls. Otherwise known as rooms.

People keep threatening a mass exodus, and enrollment keeps increasing.

Ok, well at least that pp explained something to me, despite calling me dumb. It has literally never occurred to me to be concerned whether men have used a facility at one point before I have used it. I often go to friends’ houses for parties and dinners and have never been concerned that a man might have used the bathroom as well.

In any case.. I am positive that no school will replace ALL of its bathrooms with these. So kids will surely still have the option of using another traditional bathrooms.

I remember helping a couple of confused and unsure fellow female students with pads and tampons, sharing products, multiple discussions about periods, etc in the 'common' area of the female toilets at school. I can't believe they would take that private, safe, female-only space away.

And I would NOT want to have to listen to men/guys standing and spraying pee everywhere every time I use the bathroom. It sounds so vile, I cannot stand it. Yet another reason the men/boys pee sitting down at home here.

You honestly can't see the difference between some male professional friends of yours sharing your bathroom at a dinner party and the tons of random men from all walks of life using a public toilet? Honestly?

People get very, very, very upset about who should get to use which bathroom. You'd think "bathroom panic" meant "yikes I have to get to a bathroom RIGHT NOW", but it doesn't. And there's a long history of bathroom panic, too.

I was stunned to hear they didn't have unisex bathrooms. Come on people this isn't the 1930s.

Nothing in that article said it would be a single bathroom like they have at Starbucks. What the woman was proposing was a restroom like they have at schools today with private stalls. What a dumbass idea. Sure let's have a restroom where teen boys and girls can go into private stalls and do whatever they want. We all know what happened at RHS and that was a single sex restroom with the regular stalls. Stoooopid. Pls MCPS..I was trying really hard to like you. Pls don't F this one up. You already have overcrowded schools and trying to implement a new curriculum. Pls for the love find something else to spend our money on.

We already have that, don't we? We already have private stalls, without monitors.

Private stalls meaning doors that go from ceiling to floor. No, we don't have those today. We have semi private where you can see someone's feet.

I can already see it, a sexual harassment lawsuit for a boy accidently walking into a stall occupied by a girl. As a mother of a boy and a girl I see it from both sides and either way it’s a very bad idea.

I didn't realize that visible feet means not private.

If the door goes from the floor to the ceiling, that's not a stall. That's a room.

The argument here seems to be that bathroom rooms are bad because they don't have enough privacy and also because they have too much privacy.

Half the times, the patches on the doors are not very secure. This would definitely happen.

No, that is not the argument.

Some PPs above explained that bathrooms are a safe space for girls to talk about things that they may not want to discuss in the hallways with hormonal teenage boys around. Taking that space away is partly the issue.

Latches, not patches.

Though, there are definitely holes in the doors also.
