That data isn't available for this school year, yet. OSSE publishes it in the audited enrollment data.
Last year's info is available on the report card - 71 PK3, 60 PK, 54 K. 49 1st, 30 2nd, 28 3rd. And grades 4, 5, and 6 all had fewer than 10 kids each. None of this bodes well for the new Montessori middle/high school. |
I am surprised that there is a bigger drop off between 1st and 2nd than between k and 1st. Wonder if that will continue to hold true. |
| I can't speak for the current year, but when we left the school, our "Lower Elementary" class had 0 third graders and I think maybe two 2nd graders. The rest, probably 15 to 20, were 1st grade. |
Report Card data is of all student ever enrolled, including those who left and were replaced, so it would be higher than actual seats. I have no idea why they report it like that. |
So is the enrollment data spreadsheet. They collect enrollment in October and that is the count until the next count day. |
Nope. Count Day is a snapshot of the number of students who were at the school on that day, so you could only have 1 student in a seat. Ever Enrolled is the number of students who were enrolled that year at any time, even if they left and another kid filled that seat. There could be 2 or more kids counted for the same seat. |
| Does anyone at the school know more about the AMS accreditation issue asked by a PP? |
Those are pretty balanced classroom through lower elementary. Doesn't show how many of the K and 3rd are new, but the balance by grade are comparable to other montesssori schools. |
Those aren't the number of kids enrolled at any one time, those are the Ever Enrolled numbers. The number of kids actually at the school for the year is lower but we don't know how much lower. |
| SSMA has taken quite a beating lately, but is it a viable option for PreK 3 & PreK 4? I wanted a Montessori education for my oldest last year, but it looks like Langdon and Nalle don’t accept kids into Pre-K 4 without previous Montessori experience. Would it be completely nuts to do PreK 4 at SSMA and then lottery into Langdon in 2021? |
What's your IB? Are you OK with going there or staying at SS for. K if you don't get a spot at Langdon? There are a few other Montessori in the area top |
Langdon is my IB. The only other nearby Montessori is Lee and I don't think I stand a chance of getting in there. |
If langdon is you IB then you will get a seat for K+ if you go and enroll at any point during the year of K +grades they have to take you if you are IB. So, you could definitely go to Prk where ever and then go to Langdon for K or 1st etc. But keep in mind what connections and community you might be building and or leaving. Our HRC isn't really all that open arms for new families it seems to take a couple years to build that community if you are post Prk. But then that seems kind of typical for dc post Prk. Best of luck! You might also consider some summer programs that are at Montessori Private schools and similar programs if you don't want to deal with moving schools. |
I don’t think that’s completely nuts at all. Especially if you’re specifically interested in Montessori. The primary classes are generally pretty great across the board. The wheels start to come off in elementary. |
We’re a pretty recent family and I would put it as a dead-last option only. You don’t know what classroom you’ll get; we had a great teacher the year before who then left (understandably), leaving the classroom without a lead instructor. Teachers can take only so much...who is to say that next year isn’t the year that the remaining stellar teachers finally get fed up and leave? |
