The Board allowed Bethune and Howard to continue to operate, so I doubt there will be any consequences for SSMA. The Charter School Board is a joke.

Seriously. Nothing to see here, folks. Although if SSMA gets to Tier 3 they may be in danger.

Does anyone know if they even filled up their seats this year? Financial death spiral is the real danger if they didn't.

The real danger is people thinking their children might get an education at this school.

SSMA vs. Langdon Montessori?
SSMA vs. Langdon non-Montessori?
SSMA vs. Langley?
SSMA vs. Bunker Hill?
SSMA vs. Walker-Jones?
SSMA vs. J.O. Wilson?
SSMA vs. Browne?
SSMA vs. Wheatley?
SSMA vs. Miner?

Really? I would put it above Walker-Jones and below Miner.

It’s kind of hilarious that all of the haters torched Sela for years and propped up SSMA. Sela’s now got some of the top math scores in the city, four stars, tier 1 with a high sped and at-risk population. SSMA’s been shame-spiraling for years.

That's fine. The reality is that most of the "undesirable" DCPS schools are now a better option than SSMA. I hope Noyes, Bunker Hill, Langdon and Burroughs will start to get more community support in light of SSMA's decline.

SSMA parent here. Still loving it. Our son is learning so much, the Spanish program is going great and the community association is working great with the administration. Just so that people know, most of those parents that left are all white, so make your conclusions with that in mind. All seats were filled and no financial danger for the school, even if haters want to build fear in those who don’t know

Your child must be in the primary program. Check back in after your son takes the PARCC in third grade and let us know if your perception has changed.

Oh, please tell us what conclusions we should be drawing by your unfounded claim that most of the parents who left were white (which is 100% untrue).

Glad to hear it. Why are the test scores so bad?

We're an African American family who left SSMA. I didn't hate the school and may have stayed if we hadn't gotten in to one of our top choices. This is an incredibly insulting assertion. I know white families, black families, Hispanic families, and Asian families who left the school. I know white families, black families, and Hispanic families who left. Please don't turn this into an argument about race, the SSMA community I was a part of was better than that.

Retention stats are here: https://dcschoolreportcard.org/schools/166-3066/metric/reenrollment

AA: 77.39%
Hispanic/Latino any race: 87.5%
Two or more races: 66.66%
White: 54.54%

So basically the retention isn't very good for any group.

These numbers are for the last school year... I can imagine this years retention is worse
