They must have gotten less applications this year because Dr. R spammed the local and Montessori Facebook groups-- she posted in at least seven groups I'm in. The Feb 23rd "please apply" Facebook post had 51 shares. The majority from her into groups

Did it??

Also, why do they have three open houses past the deadline where you can change schooo order much less even put it on your list? And after the enrollment desdline?

I've never totally understood this, but there are many schools that continue open houses through the spring.

You actually CAN change your order up until March 15 (just not add or subtract any schools). So potentially you could go to an open house and decide to move a school up or down on your list. You could also use an open house to help you determine whether to accept a spot if offered if you decided to throw a school on your list at the last minute.

I understand the rationale for continuing to hold open houses after the lottery deadline, but I don't understand why SSMA cancelled several of the pre-lottery open houses (with no prior notice).

Yeah, but I think they have 3 after the March 15th deadline scheduled and one in mid-May after you are supposed to confirm enrollment (of course, there is still movement on the wait list after this). I don't necessarily think it is a crazy idea to keep having open houses, but it seems like if they are having trouble showing up at a typical open house, then they could just schedule one offs for parents that were trying to confirm their decision.

Maybe everything that is going on and being talked about in the community will actually start having an impact then.

If only SSMA put that much effort into updating the information on their website and removing the dead/misdirected links.

Zero percent of that happening unless the board and ED changes. They are completely incompetent.

Looks like they are doing a tribute to Mary McLeod Bethune - what's so weird about that?

They copied the exact text and photos from the Council House's Facebook page without attributing it?

They acknowledge the source in the first sentence: "SSMA and the Mary McLeod Bethune Council House NHS..."

I'm no fan of the school, but this is a super reach, PP.

54% to 23% in one year.

I know. Two stars is 20%-40$, so they're getting awfully close to just one star. No doubt the PCSB will just pass them along with no real changes, like it does for most mediocre schools. Their math scores are atrocious and their math growth percentile is also really bad. I get that people like Montessori but is this really worth it? Looks like they lost over 6% of their kids over the course of the year last year.

I’m waiting for the SSMA boosters to come out and try to explain why this school is not a sinking ship.
