New Lake Braddock principal named

He will do more damage first - he will cater to some select parents - so will be divisive - sounds like doesn’t think orchestra was structured enough so it will be more think inside the box type changes -

Sounds like you are familiar with him from his previous school, and it wasn’t perhaps a positive experience.
I’m sorry to hear that.
Lake Braddock is a fantastic school, with very involved parents. Here’s a little story about what kind of people they are.
About 10–15 years ago lake Braddock started to have some problems. They started small, but it was obvious it was just the beginning. It was extremely serious because the faction causing the issue was a gang called MS -13.
The entire community mobilized and stomped out any trace of embers before there was fire.
If this guy is as destructive as you say, they’ll stomp him out too.
I suspect he realizes it’s a huge , successful school and won’t be looking to upset things.

If LB parents could run MS-13 out, then he may just have met his match! By the sounds of it, there is a common belief that he was sent to LB as retaliation or punishment. I have no knowledge of the inner workings of Gatehouse, so I don’t know if there’s any truth to it. Nonetheless, despicable Smith is, he does look good on paper. So it’s entirely possible they legitimately thought he was a good choice for the job. If Gatehouse did hire him to retaliate against anybody at LB it would have to be the teachers. He’s going to wreak havoc on them. He’ll have little impact on the status quo as far as the parents are concerned. If I were an LB parent I wouldn’t rush to judgement. If I were an LB teacher over 40 I’d be very nervous.

Does he have a music background? Seems strange an administrator would immediately start tinkering with performing arts, if they have no experience in that arena.
Does it save money or help scheduling in some way to reorganize orchestra?
It’s very strange.

He taught PE to kindergarten through 2nd grade in Alaska for a year and then taught PE to kindergarten through 5th grade for another year or two before he escaped the classroom. He then took a series of AP and principal jobs. By coming in and disrupting what sounds like a successful and beloved program, he's able to put everyone on notice that they need to fall in line or else. My money is on the teachers at LB. They seem to have his number. Stay strong, LB.

Ahhh. You see, he’s just planting seeds for what’s to come. Summer is coming, and he will have plenty of time to rummage through the teachers classrooms and their desks to find what secrets lie there. If he thinks if doesn’t belong he tosses it away without allowing its owner a chance to retrieve it. He may also find something he likes as decor for his office, and, poof, it’s there! He’s just biding his time. This is just the beginning.

This has to be a joke, right? There's like 300 staff members. Who has the time for this?

This is extremely sad. I have tried to contact the media about these scandals but the powers have controlled it. Elected officials should not be punishing our students and schools. It is a huge mess that started many years ago and has been dragging. This is all about cover ups scandal, bullying and abuse of power for retaliation by elected officials and leadership.
A lot have been affected by these and silenced. They get rid of anyone who stands against thier abuse, unethical actions and the continuous scams and brings who will cooperate with them to continue this.

Wrong. It’s bad but that’s not true.

Dave Thomas was extracted with no plan. He’s still in payroll by the way and the school culture has crumbled over these years. Elected officials? No one at central office is elected. The scandals and cover ups are on the superintendent, his incompetent HR people and the region people. Where’s the school’s PTA in all of this?

Please understand, he will not punish the students, in fact you may see a decrease in discipline. He truly does want to improve the educational methods. It will be the teachers that will suffer under his heavy hand. The methods he uses to implement the changes he wants is the problem. The changes will most likely be swift and not done in a people friendly manner. This is really what saddens me. He really has potential to be a great principal if it weren’t for his complete lack of people skills, and closed door policy with staff.

Just great. Students are practically begging for some structure and boundaries. They have asked that their teachers be respected. This man will not succeed here. Tell me he rented his house.

I agree with you that children, including teens need structure and boundaries. However, today’s children have very few of them placed upon them by the people that make the most impact, their parents and teachers.
