And it is done -- Daniel Smith has been named as the new principal for Lake Braddock. Meet and greet scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

No favorites. No under-the-table promises to deliver. No biased teacher promotions. No rampant nepotism among the staff. No appointments of under-qualified buddies. No financial improprieties with the athletic department. No vested interested with teams to protect and promote coaches. No kowtowing to parental pressure. |

| He seems like a well qualified pick though he wasn’t at his previous school that long. I’m wondering if he and his family will like this area- it is so different here than the other parts of Virginia where he has lived and worked. |

Typical LB parents already clutching their pearls on how the announcement was rolled out. I presume they wanted a personal email and invitation along with a complete C.V., background investigation, and references.
Just wait for the DAMN announcement. You will know all you need to know when it is time to know. This process happens all the time in FCPS. Get back in your mini-vans and tighten up your busting-at-the seam Lululemons. |

| There has been no announcement yet. The staff has a meeting tomorrow after school tomorrow. Community meet and greet to follow. The OP has some inside information and probably shouldn't have posted the name yet. Just trying to stir up the parents |

To all you folks who keep whining about healing and transparency, here's how to proceed:
PUT THE PAST BEHIND YOU. Thomas is gone. Banbury is gone. Meier is gone. Gross is temporary (and doing a good job). We have a new principal. SUPPORT HIM OR GET OUT THE WAY. Stop carrying around the baggage because your personal agenda and apple-cart of supplicating objectives have been interrupted. A selection has been made. Stop doubting the process. Stop doubting FCPS. The school needs your support. The staff -- which remains in place and is the primary touchstone for each and every one of your darling above-average, over-achieving children -- needs your support. |

02/06/2019 Dear Lake Braddock Secondary School Community: I am pleased to announce that Dr. Daniel W. Smith, principal of Floyd E. Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, has been named the new principal of Lake Braddock Secondary School. His official start date is April 22, 2019. Dr. Smith brings extensive experience to this leadership role, having served in school leadership positions since 2005. At Kellam High School last year, Dr. Smith achieved the highest on-time graduation rate and lowest dropout rate in the history of Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS). Previously, Dr. Smith served as principal of Princess Anne High School and Corporate Landing Middle School in VBCPS. In Page County Public Schools, he served as principal of Luray Middle School and Grove Hill Elementary School. Prior to his appointment as a principal in 2007, he served as an assistant principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Shenandoah County Public Schools. Among his leadership accomplishments while serving as a principal, Dr. Smith implemented a one-to-one Chromebook program for all students and instructional staff utilizing a learning management system; coordinated and implemented the International Baccalaureate Program, middle years and diploma programs; and developed an innovative ‘Integrated STEM’ initiative, focused on interdisciplinary problem-based learning with an engineering focus. He empowered teachers to create innovative interdisciplinary course offerings to make course content more relevant for students. Dr. Smith also facilitated and guided the turnaround of a school with an ‘accredited with warning’ designation which was recognized with Virginia’s “VIP Competence to Excellence Award” in 2007-2008. His teaching career began in 2002 in Alaska in the Northwest Arctic Borough School District where he developed and implemented a physical education curriculum for middle school students. His next teaching experience was at Ashby Lee Elementary School in Shenandoah County Public Schools, teaching kindergarten through fifth grade. Dr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Science at James Madison University, his Master of Science at Shenandoah University, and his Doctor of Education at the University of Virginia. Dr. Smith is a strong instructional leader who believes in promoting best practices for teaching and learning. He builds collaborative relationships with staff, students, parents and community members wherever he has served. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Smith to Lake Braddock Secondary School.
