New math pathway

The idea that talented students will have their educational needs met simply because they're grouped with other talented children makes a mockery of the fundamental premise that teachers and curricula are critical to education.

This is not even close to correct. Controlled for other factors, research shows who you go to school with is a significant determinant of success.

Actually no. What I say is of two kids who both do sports/band/chores/Kahn Academy, the one with higher MAP/CoGAT scores will be the one of the two who studies for those exams with a math Ph.d running a business model dependent on delivering success on those exams.

You would be wrong. I know several kids who do a prep class and they do score high but the top top scorers I know do not attend these classes. They are very busy with sports/band/chores. I am sure prep classes can help boost your score. It can help make sure a bright kid scores at her top potential ensuring she can access the enriched classes. But it can't propel an otherwise average kid into those classes.

Well, yes.

Any learning inside school can also be considered as “prepping” to get higher scores. Does it matter where you learn, MCPS, parents, Khan, Dr. Li, or tutor? The concept of restricting learning in the classroom neglects the fact that we are already at Information Age. All of us kids or adults are expected to learn through multiple channels and formats. For those who are already advanced in math in Montgomery County, keep up what you are doing and look for your peers are at national level.
