How is the death penalty going to stop stuff like that? |
The real solution is to deal swiftly and severely with DC’s out of control homeless population. But what are the chances of that? |
Um, you do know that some drug users and mentally ill people actually aren't homeless, right? The real solution is drug treatment + mental health treatment + housing + adequate policing (to get people in crisis off the streets before this stuff happens). vilifying homeless people as a class is creepy and fascist. |
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! Who the eff cares if it was totally dark, or maybe dusk, or even if it was pitch black. Women should be able to run at night, ALONE, anytime of day without morons on the internet saying THEY should have done something differently to "be safe". This woman did nothing wrong. She was violently attacked and murdered for seemingly no reason. If that doesn't send chills up your spine, seek help. But arguing about the status of daylight is not the point of the arguments above. You are part of the problem. |
Of course they should be able to. Absolutely. But they can’t. Because it’s not safe. Wishful thinking does not make it otherwise. |
Yes, of course, but you have to force them off the streets. If given half a chance, many of the homeless would choose to do exactly what they’re doing now. They should not have that choice. |
It is ridiculous to think that this was not a safe place and time to run. I live a block from there. I was out there last night, dining on a patio a block away. There were literally hundreds of people walking around within 2 blocks. Note that diners from another cute restaurant ran to try to save her. It is not like she was out alone in some remote place. This neighborhood is hip and hopping, especially on a beautiful night like yesterday (although the mosquitos were out; that was my biggest concern at the time). |
| I love all of the "blame the victim' stuff. Please stop. It will be you someday. Don't be so high and mighty. Yes, men attack women all of the time during daylight, nighttime, whenever. |
+1 The person does look high. Poor woman was at the wrong place and the wrong time. Awful. |
|
The deal that penalty gives prosecutors leverage.
Bring it back. |
| ^the dearh penalty |
| Death. Sheesh |
You don't think women should be able to walk home at 7:15? Ok. |
I beg to differ. I was dining in the area on a recent evening, on the same block, and saw all kinds of sketchy people pass by, both from the restaurant window and while standing in front of the restaurant. It might pass as acceptable for DC, but it’s hardly a safe and secure environment. It does not surprise me that this happened where it did. |
Of course they should be able to. I wish it were so. But it’s just not a good idea in that area (and many other areas in this city unfortunately). Sorry to break it to you. |
