The Scam that is DC Express

Yep there are many alternatives. DCE is focused on developing HS players and those who want to play in college. Go somewhere else if this is not a consideration.

You are a sucker. Other clubs charge between $0 and $50 for a tryout. They are greedy guys. Kind of like the circus moving from town to town. St. Andrew's, St. John's, Bullis, Prep and now Churchill.

OP here. I have no idea why you’d get do angry over this? It has been my reality across 2 boys and 2 girls in b-ball, ice hickey and lacrosse. Any club, all-star team (UAA and Teak Maryland Ice Hockey, as examples) for every high level travel team. And it has all worked out for them. They are damn good (2 play in college; field hockey and lacrosse) and the other 2 are doing great and happy. And isn’t that the point?

It’s pretty clear you have something personal against DCE owners (prob Bullis Dad or kid, my guess), but your odd infatuation w those guys doesn’t mean it’s bad for those of us actually in it. As another poster said, market dictates as it relates to any biz and market will dictate if DCE will continue or not. Although I’m pretty sure I know what your hope is, nobody knows. Maybe they are ahead of the curve and other clubs will follow their pricing. That’s what happened in ice hockey.

A modest tryout fee ($50) seems to be the norm which pays for field and coaches butmore than anything puts skin in the game so coaches don't waste time and thought on kid who don't have legit ability and interest in joining team. I've heard of w full weekend combines ($300) where if the kid makes the team and joins, the tryout fee is applied to club tuition. But I do understand how some folks would object to paying double w/ no chance of joining a pre-selected team. The evening camp before tryouts doesn't seem worthwhile- long lines for drills w/ few reps for each player, didn't see any instruction either - but consumers vote w/ their feet and dollars so it's worth it for these folks.

NL is the superior option for MC people. Not even close.

How long has DCE been around? I don't see any real history on the site except they were branded through Long Island Express. Are they still the same as PSS and draw most of their players from BLC? Are the rumors still standing that now that the original group has almost passed through interest is waning?

DCE has been around about 3 years and already beat club option in DMV for boys

Best if you exclude NL, Madlax and VLC

No, they were Performance and re-branded as DC Express. They've been around at least 6-7 years.

Aren’t the DCE guys the ones who tried to run out the bullis coach? And now they’re at prep? What was prep thinking?

DCE owners and coaches get unfairly attacked on this forum. Wonder how many of these ad hominem attacks emanate from the delicate hands of the ca-bull. Must hurt to know these dudes are surgically removing MD from your gravy train.

They tried to get the Bullis coach fired.

They have moved from St. Andrew's to St. John's to Bullis and now to Prep

They charge $500 for a tryout

Those are facts.

Tried to get the Bullis coaches fired who have won 3 out of 4 IAC titles. Nice.

They are not getting unfairly attacked. When you present yourself and you club as wanting to develop kids and then the reality is its all BS, many kids and parents felt taken.

Their behavior is what is speaking. When you bounce from school to school, try to force out a Coach and run sham tryouts, what do you think is going to happen? I have more respect for them as a club if they would hold invite only tryouts so you knew it was a "real" tryout. When you go and see firsthand that they have already picked a team, it leaves a bad taste.
