They charge $95 for a tryout, which is 2x more than anyone else. My buddy's son went to the tryout last year and during the 1st day, they basically separated the guys on the team on one side who were obviously on the team and put the poor kids who weren't going to make it on the other side, sending a random coach to chaperone and go through the motions with them.
But before then, they have a PRE-TRYOUT camp for $225. So because it is more than implied that you have to attend both, nearly all the kids are spending $320 to tryout. The same guys who forced Bellistri out of Bullis are making families play over $300 to tryout. Their greed will be their undoing. This is definitely going to drive more people to Next Level and elsewhere. |
| The poor kids???? |
| The poor kids as in the sons of the families who were duped. Seriously, you are defending paying $300 for a tryout? |
The reality is that making the roster of a high level club in any sport is difficult because you must REPLACE someone on the the current roster who is already proven - you have to bring something special to replace someone already there. Align your club try out choices with this reality and your son's skill set by talking to the coaches BEFORE you attend any tryout to get a realistic view of open roster spots and what they are looking for by position. i would not complain about the business model. There are plenty of lax clubs out there to choose from so pick one that is a good match. |
The business model is they pretend to say they are all about the training and the skill development and then when it comes down to it, there are all about the wins and the $'s. Kids that believe the Coaches actually care about them and then dump them. Great Business Model. And you wonder why the people at Bullis are feeling they way they do having the Coach fired. These guys came in, played a good game and convince people they care. |
| Is BLC a feeder DCE? |
| Don't most clubs have tryout camps? |
No. It is prevalent on the girls side, but not the boys side. It is a total scam by DCE. They got Bellistri fired who has taught at the school for 2 decades. Totam scumbags. |
You miss the point. Their greed will come back to hurt them. Chsrging 2x more than anyone else for a tryout is gross. But putting the squeeze on people to cough up another 200 is despicable. |
I’d like to know the answer to this too. |
Yes, they are affiliated. Here is a quote from the DC Express website: "DC Express is a unique club lacrosse program backed by Performance Sport Systems, Long Island Express and Bethesda Lacrosse Association." |
| A lot of powerful people are behind Bellistri. This coup attempt is going to fail, IMHO, and DCE will be scrambling for fields when Bullis kicks them out. |
According to an email just sent to Bullis players and their families, the coup has indeed succeeded. |
Post the email. |

Read the post article. Coup has not succeeded
