How will Wootton or RM be affected by new high school in Crown Farm?

It's a safe bet that 400+ kids zoned for RM will be rezoned for Crown, as that is the only proposed solution to RM's overcrowding. They could move one ES entirely, or move parts of several.

Alternatively, they could reassign Twinbrook ES to Woodward and leav the remaining ES’s at RM. that would free up Crown for more areas.

I never said that they wouldn't take any away from RM. In fact I explicitly said that they WOULD. I said they would not REZONE again. That is different that REDISTRICT.

?

Moving a neighborhood from one elementary school to another is rezoning. Moving an elementary school from one high school cluster to another is also rezoning.

Rather than argue semantics of what MCPS calls various things, let me see if I understand this. Are you saying you think they'll take all of CG or only part of it? I have seen some suggest that they would only take part of CG which I do not think is true. They already reduced enrollment by moving WG (CG3) to Beall. If they move CG4 and CG5 to another ES then CG will be woefully under enrolled. Are you saying that they'll break the school up and make part of it attend a different MS and HS than the rest of the ES? Right now every kid that goes to any of the 5 ES's in the RM cluster goes to RM. I don't see that changing.

They could take all of CG, or they could take only part of it. Nobody knows, and nobody is going to know until about 18 months before Crown HS opens.

I think it's going to be all of CG. There will be too much apartment growth in the town center over the next decade. Beall enrollment will continue to rise.

That is why they can not take all of CG..they just need to move a chunk of the kids out to make room for additional kids in RTC. King Farm/Derwood are likely choices.

Why would you add RP? There are other ESs in the cluster that are closer - Beall and CG.

As for Wootton cluster, Lakewood ES is much closer to Crown than Fallsmead. I don't think you are very familiar with the surrounding area.

Most of Beall is walkzone to RM. it will likely be either Collge Gardens or Ritchie Park.

I wonder what would happen to the whole IB curriculum at College Gardens in the event it got moved to the new Crown HS.

Good question. If it's removed, the PTA could fund it.

Woodley Gardens families might be quite happy they were moved to Beall after all is said and done.

IB PYP at CG is being moved to ES#5 this fall.

CG parent here and WHAT? Not according to our principal. Chinese immersion is moving, but IB is staying

Keep reading, they were wrong.

One elementary each from Wootton and RM will join Crown. It's not very hard to see.

Yes, all your crystal balls forecasting what MCPS will do 7 years from now just amazes me...

Lol exactly. I doubt through school will actually even get built. The CIP was just a placeholder so they don't lose the *option* to build the school. They have 10 years to make a final decision. Meanwhile, all the schools continue to get overcrowded...

Crystal ball would be knowing exact boundary. Educated guess will be coming up with scenario which will fill new school with students. Often those educated guess will be much closer to eventual boundaries.

Actually its been funded, so it will get built. Ok, crystal balls/educated guess/whatever. Have you been paying attention to the recent MCPS boundary studies (RM ES #5, Silver Creek MS)? I think MCPS does what it wants, and if someone guesses right they were just lucky.

Educated guess = guess. Probably they will not reassign Monocacy ES or Bethesda ES to Crown HS. But for anything in the Richard Montgomery, Gaithersburg, Wootton, or Quince Orchard clusters, you need a crystal ball. If you think that's fun, have at it!

Well, with RM5 they ended up selecting a map that was put in by people living in the new school’s zone.

+1 they didn't pick the option that had the FARMs rate evenly split. They picked the option based on proximity and capacity.

We just bought in Lakewood ES (and we are only .5 mile from Wootton) So this is a little concerning... Is there anywhere online that MCPS has posted anything about the proposed redistricting/rezoning?

PP, the MCPS Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) mentions Crown Farm in the sections on the Wootton, Quince Orchard, Gaithersburg, and Richard Montgomery clusters. Same language:

Expenditures are programmed in the six-year period to open
a new high school on the Crown Farm site to address overutilization
in the mid-county region. Although an FY 2019
appropriation for planning was recommended by the Board of
Education to begin the architectural design for this new school,
the County Council delayed the funds by one year to begin in
FY 2020. Once the planning is complete, a recommendation
will be included in the next full CIP regarding the phasing
and completion date for the opening of this new high school.

That's all anybody knows - including the people making "educated guesses" on DCUM.
