How do you “resign” from a job you no longer have because you were removed from it months ago?

I wondered the same.

The psychology of why people still belong/believe explains a lot about human belief systems- not just the church, but in politics, culture, etc.

this is just so f'ed up that they sit there every sunday and preach this and that yet behind closed doors....

The church has learned nothing over the last 20 years. WHY do they continue to cover up pedophiles and rapists?!

Sorry, this is the fallout from 20+ years ago. Sorry that this accusation was about a young person.

McCarrick was known in Newark to chase after seminarians. I was actually very surprised when he was given the position in DC since this was known in the NYC area. What one really needs to understand is that the Catholic church went through a protracted period of attracting gay men to the priesthood. No problem with that, but a problem if the leaders can't be celibate. Then there is the power dynamic, but as we learn, this can be in any profession.

Things are much better today since priests undergo psychological assessment. But this was really only ushered in since the late 1990s.

I find it funny and disturbing that the same people who will boycott a pizza chain for supporting planned parenthood continue to support a church that from the top down has and continues to allow them to abuse children. So trapped and brainwashed and scared.

Because fetuses are more important than children.

All of you Modernists on this board are the real issue. Openness and tolerance of homosexuality/effeminacy by the hierarchy has lead to much of this. Thankfully, there are groups in the Church ( like the SSPX) who still practice authentic Catholicism. We reject Modernism and the errors of Vatican 2.

Dear SSPX poster,

You have gay priests in SSPX. Don't think you don't. I know a few. They just happen to be gay and conservative. - Modern Catholic

He was removed from active ministry (which was basically irrelevant since he’s in a wheelchair in a nursing home) earlier. For lack of a better explanation it was like telling a doctor that he could no longer actively practice medicine yet technically he still remained a card-carrying doctor.; but then coming back and saying his license is completely revoked.

You know nothing about the SSPX. I can tell from your tone. You're a poser and a liar. The worst sort of Modernist.

The SSPX is tiny. Everyone knows everyone and chapels are small. If there were gay priests, people would know about it. Hat kind of thing would not be tolerated

So you get to choose your own god! FYI -- you can be progressive without a god too.

McCarrick is just another tip of the iceberg. Eagerly awaiting the release of the report from a 2 year grand jury investigation in Pittsburgh of six dioceses. Church tried to suppress it, but to be released now in August with some named redacted. Early reports say will name over 300 abusers there. Long overdue for the Maryland Attorney General to convene a grand jury to investigate criminal conspiracy by the Archdiocese of Baltimore. There should be a federal investigation on the RICO statues, a criminal conspiracy across the country. McCarrick is just one of thousands - this has to stop, no more youngsters harmed.

But the issue isn't that some priests are gay, it's that they are pedophiles. And the church seems to have Been ok with that.
If a priest is gay and seeks out adult male relationshsips, that's an issue bc he broke his vow of celibacy. No different than if he choose to be with a woman. If the priesthood was just attracting gay men, then they would just be having relationships with each other, and since they are consenting adults, that may be a religious wrong doing but not a legal one.

If a priest choose to seek out children and teens for relationships instead of adults, that's an issue of pedophilia and it doesn't matter if they are seeking boys or girls because it is still legally and morally wrong and perverted.

Waaaaayyy too late, should have happened 40+ years ago. Pathetic.
The part where he was sleeping with and this indoctrinating into questionable morality thenew ‘students of the faith’ is the worst part.
A sociopath and child rapist was a prominent Catholic cardinal for 70 years and the Catholic Church let it go on and now has little to say about it??

Maybe place the Church into trusteeship?

Homosexuality is not the issue. Obviously banning that is not healthy no matter what you think. Raping and abusing children is never ok - that’s the issue.
