As for allowing for married priests, married men can be pedophiles too. i get expanding the applicant pool, but allowing women to be priests or nuns to lead, would help, i guess.

+1. it's really disappointing to see people who want to expand the pool of priests (understandably) jumping to married men rather than women. Women in the priesthood would absolutely help alleviate these and many other problems in the hierarchy of the Catholic church.
And there are practical logistical and pastoral reasons to have priests without obligations of an immediate family, but I know of know logistical or pastoral reasons not to have women priests.

Women simply can not be priests. I'm sorry. St. Paul and the Fathers are very clear on this. Accept the Church's teaching or go become an Episcopalian. [u][b]

This whole mess has me quite upset as well.

This is yet another reason I am SSPX. I have absolutely no faith in the mainstream hierarchy. MODERNISM is the problem, not the all-male priesthood. McCarick ought to be sliced up or burnt at the steak. ( a light punishment for his actions) If JPII knew and did nothing, he is not a Saint. The debate would be over. ( the SSPX is certainly right to question his canonization for many reasons) Reading this stuff makes me want to break my IPad in half and slam my fist through the desk

Funny you should say that. I became Episcopalian two years ago. Absolutely the best decision I ever made for my faith and for my family.

You must re-join the Church. Seriously.

They should only rejoin the Church if they are willing to renounce their errors. I wish all liberal Catholics would become Episcopalian or UU.

I just want to post that I'm glad this is still being discussed. It is sickening. The Arlington Diocese has posted zero about this. So disturbing.

What are they supposed to say? High-level church officials have already commented on it

In the case of McCarrick and some others, please don’t conflate homosexuality and pedophilia (sexual abuse of prepubescent children), and pedophilia with the sexual harassment of the seminarians. The former has the affect of blinding people to pediphiles in other environments (eg schools, youth sports), and unfairly casting blame on the LGBTQ community. The latter has the affect of ignoring a workplace issue that is not unlike what is experienced elsewhere (eg, corporate settings). The fact that some (many?) cases within the Catholic Church involves homosexuals just shows that sexual harassment isn’t a problem limited to heterosexuals.

The history of covering wrong-doings in Catholic ministry (particularly the priestly ranks) and ignorantly moving offenders hoping the problems magically disappear is a major problem that is beginning to change. If it wasn’t changing, we wouldn’t have these reports.

I hope the abuses stop, and victims find at least a modicum of peace.

I find it funny and disturbing that the same people who will boycott a pizza chain for supporting planned parenthood continue to support a church that from the top down has and continues to allow them to abuse children. So trapped and brainwashed and scared.

The LGBTQ community is not resposible for pedophilia in schools, churches and sports. LGBTQ people live normal healthy lives and have equal numbers of monogamous as heterosexual people.

For some reason catholic seminaries have been a refuge and breeding ground for pedophiles and those who abuse teenagers.

Having said that the catholic church should not be blamed for criminals who happen to be catholics. Some of the most truly selfless and personally sacrificing people I have met in my life have been members of the catholic clergy.

The Catholic Church isn't blamed for having clergy who happened to be pedophiles. The Church is being held accountable for covering up those crimes and protecting criminals.

Also there are a fair number female pedophile/teen abusers in schools and athletics as well. They may fly under the radar, but we all know they are there!

I agree and hope I did not in anyway suggest otherwise.

It's not too late to say Me Too!

If you or your child have ever been sexually molested by an adult the responsible thing to do is to report it to the police.

Sexual molesters don't ever stop. They move to another parish, congregation, school, team, state, or country.

Don't allow your molester to molest other children in other places.

Have the courage the say NO MORE Sexual abuse!

Make no mistake about this fact

If you were fondled, engaged orally or by intercourse with an adult when you were a child or school aged teen, you were molested.

If this occured you are guilt free!

A child cannot legally consent to have sexual contact with an adult.

Please report it now. Please stop the cycle of abuse now.

Because fetuses are more important than children.

All of you Modernists on this board are the real issue. Openness and tolerance of homosexuality/effeminacy by the hierarchy has lead to much of this. Thankfully, there are groups in the Church ( like the SSPX) who still practice authentic Catholicism. We reject Modernism and the errors of Vatican 2.

The Post is reporting he resigned.
“Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the former archbishop of Washington and longtime globe-trotting diplomat of the Catholic Church, resigned his position as a cardinal, the Vatican announced Saturday.”

How do you “resign” from a job you no longer have because you were removed from it months ago?

After watching the documentary "The Keepers" and knowing what I know already, over 50 years of abuse allegations in the Catholic Church, one would imagine that this cult would be dismantled a long time ago. The psychology of why people still belong/believe explains a lot about human belief systems- not just the church, but in politics, culture, etc.
