The TJ crowd has no problem with that. They are bathing in it now. |
OK, so let's just let kids play and not study. What is "too much" studying to you? If my larlo studies one extra hour than your's is that too much? BTW, I don't dream of my kids going to Harvard. I'd be happy with UMD. But what Harvard is doing today is not that different than what they did years ago to Jews. Their own study started to show their bias and so they killed the study. |
In order for Harvard to treat people equally, this group opposes race as a factor. |
This is clearly a problem and hopefully enough for a judge to rule in favor of Harvard. Amazing that Asians seem to be ok with pushing out blacks and Hispanics in order to increase their chances of admission. No wonder they are rated so low in “positive personality, likability, courage, kindness and being widely respected." |
| I am a white parent and I have no problem with Harvard and other using less subjective criteria and thus accepting a less diverse class each year. Harvard is right-- it devalues the Harvard experience for everyone else if one or the other group is overrepresented. But the kids who have been unfairly discriminated against based on their race (asians, primarily) have a claim. So go for it--admit only the most qualified kids and see where the institution is in 30 years. People want diversity. The last place I'd ever want to send my kids is TJ. |

Considering race or gender in admissions is NOT OK. Admissions officers should look at applicants without seeing the names, sex or purported ethnicity of students. If students share info in their personal statements, that's fine because it's their choice. |
Asians are not “ok with pushing out blacks and Hispanics”. They just want to be like Whites who don’t have quotas on their admission like Asians do. Plus let’s not forget that whites are disproportionately and unfairly advantaged by legacy admissions. Harvard wasn’t accepting a whole lot of students of color 40 years ago yet the children of Harvard students will have a 30% boost to their admissions likelihood by virtue of birth. |
Well the last time this was looked at by the Supreme Court, in U of Texas v. Fisher in 2016, the Supreme Court decided that use of race as a factor in admissions decisions was lawful. |

White people content with the status quo have an interest in portraying this as a Asian vs. protected minorities fight. Not only is it NOT so, it also does not make sense, since the only minority that is being unfairly treated in this particular instance are Asians. So don't fall for it. |
It’s not different at all to what Harvard did to Jews a generation ago. And our grandchildren will look back at this time and shake their head at the say discrimination against Asians was legitimized, just as we look back and are ashamed at the anti-semitism that kept Jews out not so long ago. |
Which is sad, and a sign that the shadow of slavery still continues to poison ALL race relations. It should not be like this. |
Show me proof that there are quotas. I don't see any indication that there are quotas...and if you say there are, you could say the same about whites and other races. |
Lawful and OK are different criteria. I can be OK with something not lawful and something can be lawful without my being OK with it. |
| If Harvard gets TJ'd it will lose it's reputation and status at the top. |
Perhaps you missed the part of the OP's article that said: "What brought the Asian-American number down to roughly 18 percent, or about the actual share, was accounting for a category called “demographic,” the study found. This pushed up African-American and Hispanic numbers, while reducing whites and Asian-Americans." |
