Worst wedding ever

I think her targeting our kids was actually just away to hurt my mom because she knew it would. My mom didn’t eat and spent the whole night crying in the bathroom because they had previously talked apparently about how important it was to my mom to have the grandkids there.

So it turns out this isn’t about the kids at all.

IM bot inderstanding why your mom was brought to tears. The MOL’s behavior was so egregious that it was more worthy of an eye roll or even astonishment, but crying all night in the bathroom? That’s a bit dramatic.

Even sane family members can go crazy over weddings. Sorry
OP. Fortunately- it's over.

+1

She said the kid walked in while she was making the comment to her husband in what she thought was private. I'm guessing the comment was something along the line of "Did you get a load of the fake boobs on Sally's mom? I wonder how long she's had those." Or "Wow, that is really a BRIGHT shade of red that Sally's mom dyes her hair. It's like I love Lucy meets Ronald McDonald." or "What makes a person get a Tweetie Bird tattoo on their breast? And then why would you get a dress that shows that off?" Given what else OP has said about the MIL, I'm guessing there was something notable to comment on.

I mean, really, if you've never made a snarky comment to your spouse about another person, you must be a veritable saint.

The MIL is 70+ and has dyed black hair with blonde chunky streaks in it.

Something like that?
It's cool, especially if she is 70+.
