another pedophile at Cloverly Elem

Coming here to say that as an MCPS educator but parent to a HCPSS student I'm thrilled with how it's being handlers in Howard and the transparency. MCPS is not handling this well and should be doing more.

I'm not a fan of MCPS, and I'm an MCPS teacher. However, Howard has only 76 schools; MCPS has 204 - soon to be 205, with the new ES.

So with regard to transparency, it's a little easier in Ho Co.

Considering that this guy subbed all over the area, I'd say Cloverley must be doing something right if their student was the first to report, and did so immediately.

Just talked to my dear child in Howard County. She confirmed he subbed at her school. She said he never touched her but did stare at her weirdly. I wish school districts had stricter standards and better pay. We pay for what we get. There aren't many men who go into teaching for the love of it, especially when the pay is depressing. Unfortunately, some choose to go into for what they deem "perks" ---staring and harming young children beyond repair.

Yeah, writing one e-mail is tough.

Yes, this. Why all the blame on the school as if they are causing this. It just isn't rational. These subs go through a system in the COUNTIES to have jobs, not the principal or school. A school can block a sub if they don't fit their needs, but anyone who suspects criminal behavior does not just pass them on. Credit goes to the school.

The something right is they have already had two other staff members arrested and one has gone to jail for 44 years. These kiddos are hyper aware of sexual abuse now. 3rd time they are not waiting around for the principal to protect them.

uh

I guess you like band aid approaches, yes? genius . . .

A damn email is a joke b/c it's only reactive. I'd have to say that while Ho Co may have sent out an email (76 schools vs. 204), considering this sicko was subbing in their SMALLER system for however long w/o being caught says loads about Ho Co, too.

just putting it out there, as we just love being reactive on these threads

Not really. It isn't even the same kids. One kid spoke up. It has nothing to do with the school.

Sorry, that really does not work as an excuse IMO. We’re taking about kids’ sacety iN school.

If MCPS is too large to manage appropriately and too large to communicate with parents, then maybe one thing needs to be done to remedy that.

It is not just a MCPS school problem. However, when my college child was in preschool, the Catholic School System overhauled their Code of Conduct. To volunteer, I had to go through their Virtus training program. Later on, when I began to be a substitute in the school, I signed a contract stating that any violation of their Code of Conduct was cause for immediate dismissal. The MCPS Code of Conduct mirrors the Catholic School Code of Conduct I signed 15 years ago.

Why doesn't MCPS enforce the Code of Conduct so children are protected BEFORE they are molested? Any police officer will tell you, child predators groom their victims and look for the opportunity. The MCPS Code of Conduct is designed to identify these grooming behaviors. If these things are ignored by a school administrator or Central Office and dismissal is banned by the unions then MCPS is willfully keeping children in harms way. MCPS is also attracting the pedophiles because they know they can get away most of the time before they are caught.

MCPS needs to do more than wait for a child to be molested and arrested by the police. A child was harmed. That is not acceptable. MCPS has the ability to be vigilant and enforce their own Code of Conduct to get these creeps out of our schools before they harm a child.

MARCH on the Carver Center on March 22nd at 2:30pm. We now have 14 schools affected by 1 pedophile. How many more are they hiding with their own internal investigations? How many more staff remains in place till a child is hurt? Demand more from Dr. Smith and the Board of Education.
