This quote stood out to me, as this contradiction is the most glaring of all, IMO. I will never, ever understand how those who call themselves "feminists" can defend Middle Eastern Muslims, particularly men. It's absurd to say, "Oh, well not ALL of them feel/act this way." This is Middle Eastern culture. Women are hardly treated better than dogs. How can someone who identifies as a feminist defend these men and their abhorrent practices?

NP... I work in IT and for the last 20 years have worked with Chinese IT folks, am often the only caucasian in the room. And, I know a lot more Mandarin than they realize. These are some of China's best and brightest where it comes to IT, and yes, they have their opinions of Americans but don't actually have much of a clue where it actually comes to understandin American culture and politics, so I take any conclusions in this thread with a major grain of salt.

It's funny, many many years ago my conservative BF was very enthusiastic about American invasion to Iraq. He really believed that America will free people and they will thank us once they get a taste of democracy and they can't wait to get rid of Islam and to adopt western values....that was long time ago.

THis was actually the bullshit they fed the military. Many of them came back completely disillusioned.

I had to hold my tongue at a party thrown by some folks I babysat for when the Rs started babbling on about how great we were for the women of Iraq. Do you live under a rock? Trump's administration has federal science budgets being gutted, climate, atmospheric and other science programs being shut down, rollbacks of regulations to protect the environment, parks and natural resources, rollbacks to regulations that protect consumers, and many other onerous things are being pushed. It's not minor stuff, it would take us backward by decades. People are right to be angry and march. There has not been this kind of an assault on the American people by our own government in decades.
