NP. Because of racism, past and present, I would humbly suggest tailoring certain police procedures and case precedents to reflect the reality of profiling. For instance, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court recently ruled that African American men may lawfully flee from law enforcement in certain circumstances. Recognizing the inherent biases in our laws would be a good start. |
Oh give me a fucking break. You can flee anytime you want. Just prepare to be charged with it. You're an ignoramus with no understanding of the law. I hope these losers flee right into your bedroom. Don't bother to call the police when hey do. |

Everyone wants to be real tough, the chip eater, the cops, the "it's the LAW!!!" commentators, everyone has grown a huge pair of balls and is looking out to teach someone a lesson.
We have become a mean, nasty, rough, tough-shit, society. Each to his own. But keep watching them tough guy movies and tv series, though. Yeah, yeah, its not Hollywood's fault, entertainment is not and in no way connected with social culture nor is there any reinforcing feedback into society. |

I feel safer that this chip-eater is off the streets.
Now if they could only put forth that effort to catch those pesky rapists... Also, I'd pay good money to see one of these cops tell the guy I ride Metro with every morning to toss his Starbucks coffee and muffin. This guy is a massive, massive ex-linebacker dude who always has his Venti NFSVL and muffin each morning. Or better yet, tell any business person, regardless of color, to toss their morning coffee and breakfast. IDGAF if it's the "law" or not. I've been stuck on those trains too many times not to have an emergency bottle of water and food in my bag. Also, I never think twice about eating or drinking on the train. If a cop told me to throw my stuff away, I'd probably laugh in his face and get arrested. Like for real? How about you go look for the real criminals... the rapists, those attacking people for no reason, the thugs who hang out at the fare machines to grab money and run, etc. Food crumbs on those POS trains is the least of their worries. Did they even have one line that ran smoothly every morning last week or this week? DC's new head guy seems great. Now he needs to bring in some help from NYC and Chicago to teach these idiots how to run a mass transportation system. First rule... don't buy trains with GD carpet! |
It doesn't matter what happened before this. The fact is, the police would not have arrested an adult for the same offense. I've taken the Metro every single day for the past 12 years. I've never had a commute where at least a dozen people weren't eating. I've never seen anyone arrested or even chastised for this. I don't even think this was a POC issue; it was just a "there's a young person we can hassle" issue. |
You are an idiot. Read the article before you comment!!! She was taken off to the side because SHE JUMPED THE TURNSTILE!! Then they asked her to get rid of the food. NO! We need to see your student ID? NO! Not only did commit two crimes, she was cursing, resisting and not complying. She had very right to get arrested. Do you believe every teen should just be allowed to steal and wreak havoc. Security and police should only look for rapists? What if they stole your phone or purse? Hmm, not a big enough crime, right? |
What I am trying not to pretend is that your statement is totally ridiculous. 1) Just because you are black does not mean your point is a ridiculous stereotype 2) what "black community" Donald Trump? Not all black people live in the same "community" We don't all live in crime infested inner cities and we are not all uneducated 3) Not all black teens are belligerent, just like not all white college boys are swimming rapists 4) DCPS students do not represent all black teens, maybe you need to get out more and meet some more black folk, most especially black teens, they don't happen to all behave the same 5) Knowing 500 black teens with similiar behaviour, does not mean you get to generalize about the millions of black teens that don't act like that or know the ones who do act an ass 6) Only small, lazy minds take the behaviour of a few as an excuse to generalize about the many who happen to share the same gender, race, ethnic background, religion, etc. 4) T |
Officer safety; exigent circumstances. |
| Commute everyday and never. Ever. See people eat. Sometimes evenings I see teens eat. It is not widespread in the redline or orange out of VA |

There are many many dcps students that travel to school in large packs. During certain times of the day you can assume an African American youth is a dcps student with about 90% surety.
Stereotypes on race aside. Normally they are pretty poorly behaved |
Well, yes - most teens moving in packs are pretty poorly behaved in one way or another. A friend and I made the mistake of going to Busch Gardens on Band Day. There were hordes of teens (mostly white) that were obnoxious and loud as hell (sound familiar?). They were cursing, impolite, blocking paths so that people couldn't get by... We laughed and reminisced about being a stupid teenager and kept moving. |
|
^^ however in DC I have felt threatened and afraid of certain packs of young teenagers. Definitely different from the silly stuff that can be laughed off easily.
The police should be around to show kids how to act in public. Especially around other adults in a commuting situon. It takes a village to raise a child |
I don't know about "most" but some teens are well behaved on metro. I know there have been some stories about misbehaving Gonzaga boys on metro, but from what I've seen (Red Line from Silver Spring), the Gonzaga boys were a well-behaved crew (even giving up seat to me when I was pregnant). It actually made the thought cross my mind: what nice boys. Boys of all different races, BTW. I |
| Are the gonzaga boys white? |
| Behavior gets worse around metro center of teen students in packs. |
