Police Arrest Teenager with Food on Metro

A theory that unfortunately seems true in practice.

Metro Transit Police are being criticized for excessive use of force after a video posted Tuesday showed an officer pushing and tripping a high school student, knocking her to the ground, after she refused to throw away a bag of potato chips and a lollipop.

The three-minute video, posted by a member of the District’s Black Lives Matter chapter, shows the 18-year-old in handcuffs, surrounded by three police officers, just outside the fare gates at Columbia Heights station.

I remember bringing a banana in the metro and an officer coming up to me and saying "please discard the banana or we will have to fine you." Bam! Apologized, said I completely forgot (which I did) and threw it away. You know what they said back "Have a nice day." Done and over.

All I see here is complete disrespect and her not complying with the Metro rules or direct security/police orders. My child would NEVER act that way towards a police officer. If she did, I would expect this to happen, apologize to them for her wasting their time with her behavior, make her apologize directly for her behavior, and also make sure she had enough community service hours cleaning the same metro station she completely made a fool of herself in.

But for some reason, there are people in this world that believe that they don't have to comply with rules or orders and can come and go as they please. Then play victim when an officer does anything. I am sure her mom will be just like her and turn this into a circus. You can hear the man video taping in the background "she is just a little girl." No, she was a straight up B with attitude, fighting with police, and cursing like a sailor. That is not a little girl.

+1

Self-entitled trash is what she is. Just adding to the stereotype that hardworking African Americans are trying to get rid of.

How does that work? Because all African Americans are the same and some random girl in the Metro station represents all of them?

No but if the entire country continues to see AA's disrespect police and have people videotaping saying "she is only a little girl" after she jumped the turnstile, eating, cursing, and fighting, then you are enabling others to increase this attitude and it is becoming harder and harder for everyone (cops and civilians) to not regard race into their decisions. AA's like this girl are making BLM worse and the fact someone video tapes it to show she was wronged and not just a B, is even worse.

Your ignorance is so astounding it's unbelievable. I see a lot of white people acting crazy on youtube, so now I regard all white people as lunatics.
You realize your point is asinine, don't you?

Please post all the crazy white teens refusing to put down guns, act out, cursing, disobeying the rules, and throwing a fit like this lunatic did against police. Every episode I see of teens in school with police officers, they are black. Sorry it is that way. Media loves it and the culture is continuing down that path.

Let me ask you, is this girl acting this way because of racism or is there racism because of girls like her?

Oh my god you are truly sick. A belligerent teen is now responsible for racism and you get all your ideas about black folk from world star hip hop.
You need Jesus and a brain.

I'm a black female, and I'm sick and tired of our race saying, "Yeah but white people..." at every turn, as if the black community does not have some very REAL and serious issues. Unfortunately, they will not be addressed as long as we play victim and refuse to acknowledge it. The PP has a point. Her behavior does make the race look bad and it does support stereotypes. Sure teens of other races can be ridiculous assholes, but her behavior is sadly typical of what I saw as a teacher in DCPS (and the reason I left). Let's not pretend otherwise.

What I am trying not to pretend is that your statement is totally ridiculous.
1) Just because you are black does not mean your point is a ridiculous stereotype

2) what "black community" Donald Trump? Not all black people live in the same "community" We don't all live in crime infested inner cities and we are not all uneducated

3) Not all black teens are belligerent, just like not all white college boys are swimming rapists

4) DCPS students do not represent all black teens, maybe you need to get out more and meet some more black folk, most especially black teens, they don't happen to all behave the same

5) Knowing 500 black teens with similiar behaviour, does not mean you get to generalize about the millions of black teens that don't act like that or know the ones who do act an ass

6) Only small, lazy minds take the behaviour of a few as an excuse to generalize about the many who happen to share the same gender, race, ethnic background, religion, etc.

4) T

NOTHING you typed will negate the fact that there are some VERY REAL AND SERIOUS ISSUES in the black community that can only be addressed and resolved within the community. But that will never happen as long as some continue to offer counterarguments and excuses for inappropriate, self-destructive, antisocial behavior.

Stereotypes on race aside. Normally they are pretty poorly behaved

Well, yes - most teens moving in packs are pretty poorly behaved in one way or another. A friend and I made the mistake of going to Busch Gardens on Band Day. There were hordes of teens (mostly white) that were obnoxious and loud as hell (sound familiar?). They were cursing, impolite, blocking paths so that people couldn't get by...

We laughed and reminisced about being a stupid teenager and kept moving.

I call total bullshit on this story. A bunch of lily white band kids are at Busch Gardens acting like asses? Where were their chaperones? No employees spoke to them about that behavior? That behavior elicited giggles from you and your companion??? Cool story bro. But keep running that "but white kids..." narrative, as if it will change anything in the black community or how the community is viewed.

For the record, nobody's going to simply giggle and reminisce at the sight of a bunch of black kids being loud, obnoxious, cursing and blocking paths. And with good reason too. Many will shoot you for simply "disrespecting" them. Again, I can't believe you didn't think that fantasy through a bit. I mean, the football team perhaps, but the band kids???? They are not known for being the roughest, toughest group in school--in any community, black or white.

So white teenagers (and the nerdy band kids) don't act like teenagers? LOL, cool story, bro.

People use the metro to go back and forth from the grocery store, for crying out loud). Of course she was being singled out. I see frat bros eating freaking hoagies on the metro all the time, and nothing ever happens to them.

Pretty sure if these fat bros (are you in highschool/college still?) ate those hoagies in front of an officer, something would happen. When they take food onto the train and eat it while not in the presence of an officer, I'm not sure what you expect to happen or why you think those situations are comparable. It sounds like she tried to walk past an officer while eating, aka she has no street smarts. Next time wait until your on the train before eating your snacks.

Do you tell the frat bros, the hipsters and the hood rats not to eat on the Metro? But you don't want to get involved?

I have never once witnessed this in my 12 years using the DC metro

grown ass men who refuse to look up or look dead in the face of a woman but won't let her have her seat
and I'VE SEEN PLENTY OF YOUNG MEN(VERY OFTEN TEENAGE/YOUNG ADULT BLACK YOUNG MEN) offering up their seats
so you can miss me with the all black teens are delinquent and have no manners when I see the same type of behaviour from grown folks
putting a suit on it doesn't make crap a crown

Eating food attracts rodents. Carrying hot coffee (while surfing with a phone and balancing a briefcase) is a safety problem.

Can you read? I didn't say carrying I said drinking eating and drinking on the metro are prohibited .

Please refer to number two, again I ask you what community do you know of that all damn black people live in? Do you live there? you said you are black do you live in that so call community and are you addressing issues with I assume your kids, since all black teenagers act the fool I guess that means you did too when you were teenager!! again I ask you can you give me the address, the cross street, the landmark of this so-called black community where all us us bulletin dashing, non-parenting , uneducated colored folks live ?!!!
And while you're at it you want to let the white folks know the cross street house number landmark so they can get to the white community where all like he is all on heroin, make the Olympic swim team and making up stories where they're raping their 12-year-old and getting less than a month in jail where they're blowning up federal buildings , going in churches and committing mass murder, going to elementary schools and shooting up little children .
See how asinine and ignorant that kind of generalization sounds? because that's how you sound !

I think we are talking about the AA population in URBAN DC that we witness ever day. Cannot speak about all populations in a generalized manner even in DC but especially not in ALL places throughout the US.

The rant above is way of track and kind of nuts.

Ride around on the metro before and after school hours and you will see what everyone is talking about.

You cannot fix your own community and children when you point to the poor behavior of other children as justification. Nor can you just apologize or justify it based upon "past wrongs"...

Kids need to learn to fit into society in order to succeed in it, if you give them a pass early on they will never just click their heels and figure it out as adults.

Watch the video of how that child reacts to the police - in many of the socio-economic and racial groups on this post there would be no excuses or justification if their kid behaved that way. Mine frankly should be more afraid of my reaction after I bailed him out of jail and saw that behavior - it would be more severe than anything the law could do to him.

Not physical abuse but hours doing work around the house or a community center, written apologies to the police, and a very long paper on the meaning of respect to authority.

I still remember and fear "wait until your father comes home"...

I take the metro
So what
I see ignorant ass black kids
I see respectful black kids
I see mentally ill folk having psychotic breaks
I see white folk arguing over standing I the door and getting hit with a backpack
I see black folk arguing over the same thing
What is your point than for you to try to convince yourself and others that it is ok to stereotype black DC teens .
That is the goal of a small mind and even smaller heart.
Hold on... I'm 'bout to call on Jesus again, ' cause you need Him in the worst way.

You cannot be that damn dumb to think that trying to tell folks not to stereotype is the same thing as justifying bad behavior .
I am black
I don't know that girl on the Metro
My kids are not friends with hers
I don't know her parents
How in the ***** do you expect me to fix her??????

^^^ Actually I am not that dumb - I have two masters degrees and a PHD in anthropology.

Look internally to fix the problem within the black community rather than pointing outward at what white kids do to justify poor behavior.

I do not expect you to fix this kid - but there are observations that the behavior of one group of DCPS/DC teens tends to be different (in general/overall) than others.

Having 15 degrees does not fix stupid.
You have a PH.D. racism if you think it is ok to group millions of people together and assume the behavior of a few an be extrapolated to the millions of others to whom they are not related and do not know.
And no one is justifying anything by saying white kids do it, what we are is dispelling the notion that only one group has teens that display that behavior .
Guess your grad degrees could not help you figure that one out.

Clearly if you read what I had to say initially and tried to understand the intend you would not have taken such a defensive and victim orientated response. All teens exhibit some sort of poor behavior at times yes.

As my mom would say, if your friend jobs off a bridge, would you?

Let's hire Rudi to run the metro, he looks like he is angling for a job and when Trump loses soon DC can scoop him up. Discount price.
