True. But, it should be noted that this is a huge downside. 333 wasted hours a year! |
Why do you assume it is wasted time? It is committed time but not necessarily wasted time. I'm sure you'd like us to think you fill your days with fascinating activities, but I doubt it. |
| My cousin lives in Hayden Village off of 29 just beyond the Costco shopping area. They like it a lot. |
do you commute to DC? or how long would you say that takes during peak hours? |
This is stupid - that's a fine commute in this area. When I lived within walking distance of the Virginia Square metro and worked on K Street, metro plus the walks on both ends routinely ended up taking about 50 minutes. I now commute 1:40 each way. Hellish? No. One hour is a comfortable VRE ride where I can read, watch videos, work, whatever. It's my quiet time. The rest is a short drive to the VRE, and then a mile walk from L'Enfant to my office. And I get to live on a farm. |
Right? The locals think this is BFD, apparently. LOL. |
No. The OP isn't trying to commute downtown. I wouldn't recommend living out here if you commute daily downtown. My next door neighbor does it, but she leaves early and telecommutes frequently. I think it is at least an hour drive on a normal day. |
ok, that's too bad, but thx anyway. |
if you need to commute downtown, you might want to check out burke and west springfield. And possibly a neighborhood by woodson in annandale/fairfax |
Could be a lot worse than some commutes. 40 minutes each way isn't awful for this area, not even remotely. |
| I'm in 20152 in chantilly right next to South Riding. Brand new townhomes $360-$400K. We purchased ours for $380K. DH commutes to Bethesda, and I commute to downtown DC via the commuter bus 3x a week. It's my quiet time to read, sleep in peace, or listen to music. |
which bus? Loudoun bus? And how long a ride? |
I live nearby. The commute to Bethesda sounds awful, but the bus doesn't sound terrible. How long is your commute door-to-door? |
My commute from Clarendon to 15th and L was 40 minutes door to door. It was about a 14 minute walk to metro and a 8 or so minute walk on the other side, train time and wait time and boom 40 minutes. I also lived in Adams Morgan right behind the Safeway and worked at Metro Center, with walk and erratic buses it was 25-30 minutes and never less. Less than 30 minutes to me is all people who live in Dupont and work on K/ Metro Center etc OR those who live and work in the burbs |
Y'all, to get to work at 7 am it takes 40 minutes. It's longer to get to work at 8:30 or 9:00. Not everyone has flexible scheduling options. And the only way to do it is by car, and you sit in traffic the entire way. No relaxing on a bus or train. |
